Wow, you don't get design engineering more contrasting than that.

I hate to think how much the Harrison would cost to make !!

The Matrix/Harrison comparison isn't entirely fair.  Underneath the PCB on the Matrix you will find surface mount circuitry which is all the small signal and driver stages.

There are actually many similiarities between the circuitry on the two amps but the Matrix uses modern manufacturing techniques to fit it into a much smaller space.  The Harrison also has several features including (what appears to be) separate rectification and smoothing for the two amp channels.

What it shows is how component technology and manufacturing processes has progressed to allow a similar amplifier to be made in a more compact format and less labour intensive manner.

If you Google the ARX SX3000 Gav it is 1K/ch into 4r.

On the bench it was only 940/ch both channels just at onset of clip, so there abouts. Not sure why '3000' though, should be '2000'.

I have repaired a few of these, has to be one of the worst designs re.actual layout and construction i have seen,at first sight,it looks impressive,as Chris says, dual rectifiers etc,but look at the four little sub boards that mount the output transistors, these sit just above the heatsink base,so the live portion of the underside (the solder ends of the components) is only about 1mm away from shorting the whole lot out...if you look closely at this one, someone has tried to bend the boards slightly upwards to prevent this happening,a bit of rough treatment on the road,or in a rack, and bang when you switch on.

Be seeing you.
