Spotted this which maybe of interest - badly tagged as no reference to Citronic in the title:

Collection only tho - from the Hull area

Martin, you might be able to answer this....why did some of the Citronic Thames/Tamar consoles come with the nice CL300 turntables, with the "S" shaped arm,and then some of the same models had these cheap nasty turntables, with the lightweight platter that weighs like a paper plate, and that awful arm?.....it really puts me off buying these lovely consoles when they are fitted this model of turntable.

Be seeing you.

Ian
cant say for sure but I know what you mean  They dont even have a strobe on them so you cant tell what speed they are doing
It could be early ones were fitted with these before the CL300d`s came out  or it could be just supply problems dont know for sure though  I know the Thames II was very popular when It first came out and they couldnt make enough of them to meet sales   I have several with these decks as per my pics on the other post

I wish we could make contact with someone interested who worked at the factory   There must be loads round the Melksham/Wiltshire  area that worked there
I would have a thousand and one questions for them for sure

That's one of the first ones (the one for sale on eBay) as it's got the older tape deck in it and the grilles above the amp modules are slightly different.
From looking at the circuit diagrams there's an add-on page for "Models fitted with CL300d turntables" and a separate page for the mods to the circuits, so I'd definitely say there's a first and second edition of the Thames II, the Isis and the other one!

I might have a bid on the Thames II in Hull as it's quite near to me, those turntables do put me off though.  My previous Avon and Hawaii have both had the CL300D's and they are decent turntables.  I've got a pair of CS300D's (basically a CL300D in a standalone case) perhaps these could be transplanted into the Thames with some modifications?

@mrflibble: I don't think you'd need any modification to use them. Don't quote me on that though, but I am 99% sure. Haven't done any work on any of these for a few years!

@Martin: Yep, still got them. Give me a couple of days and I'll get them scanned and pdf'd and either email them to you or I'll put them on a hosting site.

Thanks Eddie, that pretty much answers my question.

I would have certainly been dissapointed to have spent £1000plus on those new,to find it came with that turntable, yet the cheaper Avon 11 and Hawaii 1V had the nicer CL300's fitted.

As Martin says,it would have been great to have some inside knowledge of what went on at the Melksham factory,im guessing the CL300 deck was based on the Garrard disco driver deck, which in itself was based on the earlier SP25 mk IV.

As for the cheaper turntable with the straight arm,i wonder who made/supplied that? BSR?

Be seeing you.

I'm not too sure if it is a BSR Ian, I'd imagine it's probably cheaper than that!

Looks like I'm a lot quicker than I thought... as the Mrs. always says!

Citronic Thames II circuit diagrams

I've put it on Filesonic as it was the first one I came to. If you haven't used it before all you need to do is scroll down and click on 'Slow Download', wait thirty seconds, enter the 'captcha' code and hey presto!
If anyone has problems downloading from there let me know and I'll host it else where or email it as it's only 4.5Megs.

Are the turntables in these really that bad?  I'm just on the verge of buying them (got a second chance offer, the highest bidder wanted them posting!)
