Hi, has anybody tried this yet? I wonder how it works in reality.

Those look like Bill Woods designs, he is very competent (Yorkville Sound designer).
I would add cone volume correction to the throat area to improve the loading on the cone and reduce cone fatigue. |

Sorry if I'm being dim but what do you mean by cone volume correction DJK? Something like the line in green below - or more like a basic phase plug as per blue lines? Or maybe I'm on completely the wrong track Please excuse the poor drawing... Edited by darkmatter - 12 February 2013 at 8:10pm |

Something along the lines of your green sketch.
There has been some good discussion of this at the DIYaudio site subwoofer forum. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/subwoofers/190635-th-18-flat-35hz-xoc1s-design-91.html You may have to register to see the images. Edited by _djk_ - 13 February 2013 at 9:27am |

Thanks for the link djk, interesting stuff.
I have often thought about that idea in the past without seeing any real world tests (and of course too lazy to actually test it myself ha).
I could clearly see the stress lines from uneven pressure on the cone when I took a Beyma 12LX60 out of Walt's Stepped Horn, so I hoped there might be some mileage in this. |

I don't think it will drop low enough, path lenght too short. |
