    Posted: 16 July 2006 at 8:01pm
Hi Friends

I need the help of the specialists here , i want built a pair of sub boxes for a pair of eminence kappa 18A-1 drivers  but i have sizes limitations to put inside my HT furniture, the max sizes that i can use are: Width 45cms High 60 cms deep 60cms.

I was thinking in a bandpass or a dual bandpass boxes because I cannot direct reflex box because the width of the driver is 45cms  so to put in a direct box need at least 5 cms more.

something similar to poweraudio HP15SW , Small X1 , or to selenium BP6AP1, Or Beyma B04/3.

I will aprecciate all yours help.

PD : I built almost 2 years ago a 12" box similar to X1 with an Audiopipe TXX-F12 1200Watts driver and receive the support to built here from some users here but specialty form LunchieTey . The sound of tha box is good the box offer a good frecuency respond behind 30Hz but the SPLs are low and is not enough for me that is the reason because i go with the 18 drivers i want now more spls instead frecuency respond with 30 to 40Hz i think that is enough for me.

Sell the drivers and buy one for the application.

Yes you can make two badpass boxes of that dimensions.

Google and download WINISDpro and calculate the boxes

it can handle them but you have to do the work manually (which you should be doing on other types of cabinet anyway as the result is only a guide and not nesesssarily the best for your application)

to echo _djk_ though if this is for home cinema and you want to get the lows required then pro audio drivers are not the best for the job

you need something with a low Fs and a compliant suspension but this will add weight and therefore decrease the efficiency meaning a higher wattage is needed

everything is a compromise but for HT duties you need sub frequencies not bass frequencies and pro audio drivers will not give you this

something like the adaire tumult is more what you should be after

I think a bandpass design isn't suitable at all for small rooms (like your HT room). It will make room modes worse and it won't couple too well with your cabs for lowmids/mids/highs. A sealed design is the most suitable design in the 'conventional range'.

If you like the sound of your bandpass, just build another one of them. This will give you 6dB more output. You will need the low frequencies (below 40Hz) for Home Theater....

To go low (40Hz in this case) in a bandpass 6th order with the Kappa18 you need giant cabs.

meant to add that about sealed cabs JD01

a sealed box has a 12dB per octave roll off and the average room has a 12dB per octave bass gain essentially meaning that the two together sum to give a flat response

because of the cushion of air in the box they will also give you more control leaving you with a more defined bass and no boom
