Look out for a Martin Magnum(?) 2000. They're on the second hand market every now and then but they are awesome units.

You should get a Martin Magnum 650 for about £100 brand new, with warranty (unlike a secondhand unit). Good little foggers those and will suit you well if it's just general mobile disco type events you do.

I picked up a QTX FX1000 on ebay for £75 not long back. Superb little fazer and very economical on the fluid (covered a small festival tent [~400 people] for 3 days running on continuous 40% output on 2.5 litres - although 30% is effectively off...)

Avoid the Acme machines unless you like changing pumps, I sent mine back twice for the same problem and both times it stopped working again within minutes, I've now fitted a slightly different pump(off the 'bay) and so far its still going.

+1 for Martin Magnum / Jem

-100 for those cheap & nasty "Vivid V1" plastic things.   Whenever presented with one for PAT, one always ends up covered in smoke fluid.   The earth bond is located on the underside, so to test you either turn it on it's side, leaking even more fluid, or balance it on four reels of gaffa and hold the clip onto the EB screw.   Ridiculous design.

thanks for all the replies, just come back from a gig and the little martin 650 did the job. Quite a big room with high ceiling and it chugged away all night filling the space.

cheers

I was looking on the bay and I am sure I spotted one of those 650's with 20lt of fluid for £115 free shipping.

BUT they have a wired remote, may be a little draw back for some.

I saw that one and bought the one that had 20lt of fluid for £115.00. Way cheaper if you don't have fluid.
