Would like a little advice...
i need High power amps, but am on a low budget... i need second hand amps that run AT LEAST 1200w per channel @ 4 ohms, preferably more..., and wont clip all the time, and will stand being rinsed for fairly long periods of time, on heavy bass applications... i will be using them to run 2x 1k looney bins @ 8 ohms each or 2x double loaded 4 ohm w-bins @ 1100w per bin, or 1600w per bin i was thinking maybe a couple of c-marks 2650's, ive had one and it has done me well for the past year with no problems whatsoever running large amounts of bass through it almost every weekend. the only problem ive had with it is that sometimes after a particularily heavy session it had got very hot by the end of the night, almost too hot to touch... i was also considering the Samson 3200 but dont know a lot about them, any good? Recently bought 2 PSL KA-2401's, big heavy 3u amps which are really old but were £900 each when new, meant to run 1200w per channel @ 4 ohms but were not up to the job, kept on clipping hard when i turned them up, my c-mark completely outmatched them, so im selling them on and looking for something better.. im on a budget of around £440 and thats for 2 amps... anyone have any idea's? may be able to spare a little more money if it would make a substantial amount of difference Any advice on good cheap amps to get and maybe where i can get them would be appreciated Cheers

Creast 8001 not sure how much they go for now but one of them will destroy amazing amp remember its not all about watts a great power amp will do your speakers justice too.
iv run 4x 1850 horns of a 8001 and it sounds awesome loads of power. maybe some one else has some other ideas but i think it would be your best option. anyone got an idea how much they go for now? 400 500ish?

He's right. Crest 01 series on bass are seriously good. I'm not sure I've actually heard anything I'd rather have. Proper.

yeah crest are good, currently using a borrowed one ;)
but the specifications for the 8001 say it only goes to 1225w per channel at 4ohm or something around there... my horns are loaded with void v18 1200w each though so if i tried to power 4 of them with this amp it wouldn't be powering them properly at all would it? i'd need 2? i was kind of looking to go a bit cheaper than that, (not through choice, but lack of funds) im looking to get 2x amps for my money. can maybe scrape together a bit more - around the 550 mark... but thats for both, not individual.... any other suggestions?

cross the bass bins at 80hz to the top cabs if the tops can handle that! and run in bridged.
2 cheap amps that say they can deliver 1200w 4ohms wont be as good as a decent amp. iv run 2 18" bins off a berry 2500 bridged. just didnt have anywhere near the power it claimed and the creast left it for dead. plus just sounded so much better. Edited by Edd Jordan - 12 November 2011 at 5:50pm |

Remember that Crest ratings are somewhat conservative. An 8001 actually does a bit more than 1200W at 4R in real-world conditions. Don't discount one til you've tried it.
