Why would that be?

Its a much smaller cab, with a noticeable reduction in internal volume. Can the more complicated port and more heavily recessed baffle really do that much?

Did you put any insulation in this or just the braces?

Sorry for asking a silly question as this thread is about 15's, but Dub, do you have plans for the p-audio 18 reflex? I really want some double 18's because I'm tempted to move away from scoops (most sounds begining to look/sound the same.)..

Edit... Grammar đŸ˜‚

The first dual 18 P-audio design absolutely doesn't have enough port area. The second one is a step in the right direction but when using drivers like the 18sw100 I would even prefer more port area.

Have you modelled your driver in the box?

Using the first driver listed (SD1801700EL) on the first p.audio PDF the air speed through the four ports is about 0.15 Mach, anything below 0.2 is considered OK

Back to OP / original question, this plan is pretty popular for reggae sounds in france
We use it (1 above 2 scoops, usually in stacks of 4 scoops)) loaded with L15P530, crossed around 80/200
They kick well and sound warm (I've always prefered the warm sound of reflex over the dryer sounding bph designs often used in kick/upper bass, it suits roots / old school tune well I think, maybe less transparent), also I find them pretty sensitive, no need for enormous amps to make them sing, not that this is very subjective, I've never done a direct comparaison against another 215 reflex though.

When I model such a cab (around 180L, 37 Hz tuning) and using the 18SW100.
With 90V (1500 Watt) it reaches 50 m/s and then I'm even using a 35 Hz HP.

I have a PDF written up by someone from the Speakerfreakers group about port compression (can't find it atm).
Conclusion is that bigger ports are needed.

1: You won't be able to access PMs until you have at least 10 "points" as a forum user ( broadly equal to posts - but don't just post spam to get them!).

2: the plans for the P Audio 215 are on both page 1 and page 2 of this thread already ;-)
