looking really looking really good! I know what you mean about backline, PA and lights can be made more efficient but someone with a 4x12 will always want a “proper” amp.

If only we had as much sun here in the uk for full solar. My Studer 8k is off for a service after an incident with a dry powder fire extinguisher going off accidentally, it’ll then be fully rebuilt into a 14u rack so that along with a 3kva Victron Pheonix, 4 X pylontech 3000 and 2 x 2.4s there’s plenty to play with as our summer comes. Hopefully more people will see the huge advantages of getting rid of the diesel gensets and more will go for battery systems.
blah blah blah blah blah......

Hiya...in a word ...Nope ... BUT looking at the difference between DJ only and band gigs it's at least roughly another 25 - 30% load. We were turning all the old valve gtr and bass amps off inbetween band sets last weekend !

Way back at the beginning of this thread here on SP I mused about backline draw vrs PA and it's still a thing. Modern switchmode PA amps are way more efficient than old backline but that is never going to change if someone's rider says Vox AC30 or Fender Twin NO SUBSTITUTIONS ....

Sigh

So another sunny weekend gig...our usual jaunt down to Warrnambool for Goomfest. Fully solar powered from midday until bands finished at 1am which is pretty good since we were running all the main sound, backline, DJ booth and the extra special " big horns". I've talked about those co-ax's in another thread which I'll update...
Some pics from a great weekend with great bands and friends ( plus food & booze of course !)

Special thnx to Kirsty Hill for the amazing photos ....and Ollie plus other teens for graphing up the new horns with scrap vinyl !

So the Summer sunshine has got us out and about to some gigs plus we have expanded a bit !

So we did our usual Jamaican Food & Music fest down by the bay. This time we took 4 keystones though and arranged vertically. Quite impressed by the coverage which was just wide enough to cover the space and they integrated with the SS15's nicely. Had to do some quick measuring as the new keystones had different drivers and running off a different amp, so a fraction out.

And next we have upgraded the roof panels on the main trailer ( again) from 6 x 250w to 6 x 400w. Meant a whole new frame and bracing for the slightly bigger panels. The overhang at the back is legal ( by 2cm !). Also meant we had to get a bigger solar MPPT so another big blue Victron box was added ( 150 / 85 48v)..

Next plan is to use the old 6 x 250w panels as an extra ground array and possibly some extensions for 2 x keystones .

So we did a gig last month in probably the smallest space we've come across. DJ's only ...super simple setup. No delay speakers needed but still bought the Keystones out for that extra sub ! Usual compliments all round ....job done !

Summer has been and gone down here in the Southern part of the globe .... we managed a few festivals and the new battery system has performed flawlessly, no need for constant backup power to keep the system voltage up, we have set the backup to kick in at 15% s.o.c and it's only happened twice....

Some pics of our off-grid summer gigs...

Firstly a great Jamaican Music & Food festival down at the docks in Williamstown ( the Sea Shepherd Ship -Steve Irwin in the background). Just DJ's all day but a great crowd and a chance to really turn it up to eleven !

Then our usual adventures down in Warnambool for Goomfest 4. An eclectic mix of punk to thrash to DJ's...the system was on for 20 hours flat out and didn't miss a beat...

Welcome to Country with the local mob...

Edit....yes that low tent caused loads of issues with monitors ! Was a different world out front !

And lastly a very different gig doing OffGrid Living Festival. Just two tops and subs for the band stage( but the amp decided to let out the magic smoke on day one !). And 3 stages with battery powered speakers doing talks and lectures...

My fav band from that event..Whiskey Dram ..proper folk/sea shanty/ sing along style.

Next up is a full day of post summer servicing/ cleaning and then Heavy Congress.... watch this space.

OK..so finally last weekend we got to do our first proper gig in a year ! It was a Dancehall party in the courtyard of a small club in Inner North Melbourne but we were allowed to set everything up outside with power from the solar trailer and able to run at a decent level all night, no complaints and the cops didn't show up...that was the first plus.

Second big plus was that it all worked. The new batts performed amazingly and when we shut the system off at 3am after starting at 5pm the day before the batts were still at 30% SOC. We had some solar input till about 7pm but never needed any backup power. No voltage sagging, no ripple alarms and being able to remotely monitor via the Victron phone app meant we could see exactly what was going on. We even ran the Keystone subs off the FFa 6k on the batt supply which we were always wary of doing before.

Third plus is actually a 4th one ! We are going ahead with buying a 4th Pylontech batt which should give us up to 12hours runtime with no input. We have already built the case and have the leads ready so it can just slot in.

We are all super stoked in our camp and pretty gob-smacked...

Some pics....
