there's also a jackie Edwards cut of this one.
Try the dub version of it, "I trim the barber", still one of my all time favorite tubby tunes!!

The low note is F on the E-string, should be about 42 Hz.

It also has a very crisp woodblock on it that is a great benchmark for mid hi performance. Despite the tape distortion on some other channels, and overloads of the cutting system (s-sounds of singer, bass), the woodblock sounds very clean. If your system can make it sound natural, and you can hear the reverb on it, your top section is doing things right Tongue

But don't take the shitty youtube rip above as a benchmark. I don't know how the guy has set up his 1210, but the Ortofon Concorde doesn't help either. They blur/discard a lot of fine detail like reverb. Try a Grado, Goldring, or Shure instead.

Another John Holt (and all-time) favorite of mine, "stealing stealing" drops to F#, 45 Hz.

Most of the 70s stuff was played on 4-string bass. So the lowest note at normal 440 tuning would be the open E-string, 40 Hz. I've been studying and playing old rocksteady, rockers and dub stuff, and some of these are surprisingly high up on the neck, and never drop below A (53 Hz) or H (60 Hz).

I also love the bassline of "My jamaican collie" / "my jamaican girl", it's very simple but beautiful

I need something more recent and with more lower notes. 30-35hz. Not 42.
My back loaded horns go down to 32hz as single box.

Marjan, you are aware of Rog's bass test tracks "Judgement Dub" and "30Hz Bass Test"?
