Had our first gig last Saturday with the whole rig, 4 hogs (pd1850) 4 hd15s (pd154) 3x Turbo Floodlights.
Was super excited to get to hear it for the first time with the proper amps and had expectations of what it might sound like, but all i can say is, it blow my expectations out of the water! Turbos defo need some tunning but the HDs and mainly the Hogs were just mind blowingly powerful! The amount of air being shifted was unreal, i couldn't get within 4-5 meter of the stack without my ear drums rattling. The sub from the hogs wasn't very 'scoop' sounding, its was fairly tight and clean but still nice and warm and sounded great mainly on the jungle, dub, and gararge/bassline, and even on the punchy techno and house it sound tight enough. The HDs sounded sweet and super powerful, i had a few comments from people saying they couldn't believe all the kick was coming out such small boxes. They were being run off a T-amp Proline 3000 (2 a side) well below clip for most the night then when i played last i cranked it all up to just below clipping and kept a contant eye on the amps lights to make sure everything was staying in order. I poped down from the stage and all was sounding sweet but when i finished my set and the club emptied i felt the outside of the HDs and they was nearly hot! I whipped access panel off and the back of the magnet was way to hot to touch, but they were not seized, after a cool down they were still fine....few! Note to self, or anyone else, don't run 4 pd154s off a Proline 3000 just below clip with the limiter hitting occasionally! All in all it was a great night and rig sounded sweet, just need to get the Floodlights sounding right now :) A big thank you all SP members, i would be were i am now if it wasn't for everyone on hear being so helpful :) Cheers Tom |

If you do run your drivers hot in the future always remember to let them cool down before moving them.
What settings are you using on the floods? They are not too hard a box to get sounding nice. J

Well i didn't get round to setting up the delays which i need to do. I didnt E.Q at all since i didnt have time before the gig started, i just turned the amps up full then adjusted the input level per amp in till it sounded good.
The floods sounded nice and clean, they just didn't have that 'magicalness', it was like there wasnt much depth is the best way i can explain it. Maybe that's because i didnt time delay them....? |

Lev said from way back not to clip proline or get too close to clip. some amps will easily blow your speakers before clipping. I ruined 4 1550s off a matrix str 3000 lights were nowhere near clip, had the limiters in the amp on aswell. each driver had about 5 tears and boxes stunk of burning!

Some amps have a reputation for eating drivers due to DC on the outputs, as opposed to "raw power", as some would lead us to believe. Edited by levyte357- - 10 September 2012 at 2:29pm |

i knew the proline didnt like being cliped so i only took it to tickling the clip light once then took it back and never went higher. I didnt know that amps buggered drivers even when they wernt clipping though! Thats bad...why? Seems like a big of a manufacturing falt... How am i sposed to know how hard the run the amp? It doesnt even have -9, -6, -3, 0 db lights for example. Just has signal and clip.
Does anyone know what i could do to the turbos to get them sweet, would sorting out the delay for this problem? |

Yes and lights, and amps. Most things don't like being hot and moved, it makes them vulnerable to stress damage. |

Some drivers use adhesives to bond things together, at high temps this can shift. Also, as with older car engines, different metals expand and contract at different rates with temperature, so tolerances change and things may get looser/tighter and therefore more prone to fracture/slipping. |
