I have a pair of Beovox 5700 from the seventies and they are fantastic, lovely sound

B&O used allot of Philips components, not that theirs anything wrong with that but at the end of the day you pay a premium for the design aspect rather than the performance. If you're mate has money to burn id be looking at Linn or Sonus Faber, Martin Logan etc....
