complex took it for me - strong all round
quality - very loud puncy sound. good drive on the bass. great mic man
ebony - same as always. all the jokes are true
shabach - first time i had head the pd1852 and it sounded good. too close to say who was loudest. music was a bit slow for me but boxes were being tested not music.
promotion 54 produced a very entertaining line up
just my view

Maximum respecks to all the sounds.
A very good night indeed. Most of the sounds have had plenty time learning their sets and that shined through on the night. Have to give a very big "we'll done" to SHABACH Alliance, as yesterday was the 1st time they had come together with all their equipment, and sounded pretty good, considering the potential for things to tits up in a situation like this. Nuff respeck to all who attended. Lookout for the next installment on 7th April Edited by Motion54 - 13 March 2013 at 1:48pm |

Morion54 - thanks for getting this event together. Great to meet you at the end also.
First time down there ( taken me far too long), and it was great to see some old faces and put some new faces to names. Sorry to miss people later on, but Tony has a long drive back, and i had to be up and around early.
We were down there only for the early part of the event, having hitched a ride down with Tony. It proved entertaining and very informative - as many of you know, i come from a very different part of the "sound system business", but i firmly believe that every part of the industry can learn a lot from people and systems coming from a different part of the business, and last night affirmed that belief. As for the 4 systems , and what i heard from them... Complex - nice round bass line, very smooth without being overly forcefull. Perhaps a better balance than some. Top end for me fas war too strident, lots of 3-6K - which was also shown up on the mic which was ringing around the same region. Im not sure you need your horn boxes in addition to the 2" section in your larger mid high cabs - perhaps a tweeter section might enhance? Quality assured - for me, this was the system with the overall presence and projection, but was it level at the expense of quality? I might be wrong, but im fairly confident that above the scoops lay 2 twin 18 BP6 boxes, tuned fairly low...making 8 18" drivers in 6 sub boxes...just my take on it, and i stand to be corrected... Ebony Showcase - for me, Ebony owned it above 80Hz, with by far and away the most definition and balance. Below, the sub bass could not compete on level terms or projection into the room - but it was interesting to note that what sub there was could start and stop quickly and sounded well controlled. I think with a larger sub section, this would be a system to compete with the best, but as it stands, Ebonys sub section ( and i include amplifiers in this) can not compete on a box by box basis for sheer output. Shabach sound - well, with a crew line up like that, you are going to have a certain level of expectation. I was not disappointed. Early on, the rig was first fired up on a large QSC rack with i presume bridged RMX4050's on sub and i thing PL 2 series on mid high. Front end included a beautiful Garrard Lab 80, which looking like it was fresh out the box. On the QSC rack, the sub was impressive in output and depth, and the high section sounded sweet. Later on, the crew swapped to a powersoft rack. This improved sub output and definition to truly impressive levels, but in my view hardened up the sound of the mid highs, making the rig sound more aggressive. Hopefully ill make another edition soon, but for now, big thanks to all those involved. |
