Hey everybody.

Iwe been lurking for quite some time now. This lead to i bought 4 12mb1000 from eighteensound

But i was a bit unlucky with the wooden horn i built myself. The fact that its only 40x40 from the front and 20 cm deep might have something to do with it. But im running out of time. got alot of jobs in januar, so i need 4 horns that really works on these units.

Iwe looked at the limmer. But that is so overprices that its out of my reech. would be more than what i payed for the units.

Have anybody tried these units with any horns or have any ideas what to do ?

BEst regards

Hi mate, I've never heard of these 12''s by 18Sound until now.

Had a read up on them & they seem very good.

I see they are a mid-bass driver, what are you planning to play through them, Mid range or Bass ?

Cheers.

You could try comparing the T/S specs with other 12" cones used in available horn designs. The MT122 is deesigned around the PD123er I think. If the specs came up similar they should work nice in that design.

Also read up on the FAQ on the speakerplans homepage. If any of the specs differ, that might help you decide if it's going to let the driver down in that design or not.

The FAQ also has a decent explanation of T/S specs if you need it..

I'm sorry to tell you, but your drivers do not work in mt122..

I did a sim and there are some nasty peaks an nulls in the response

maybe a direct radiating design ?...

this is the imput screen for my version for 12mb1000

Thx so much for the replies. Really nice

the last diagram looks nice imo. No nasty peaks. But u sound like u know alot about it so MT122 are not a option.

Range wise i had thought of let them play from 150-200 to 1700-2000. I run a 4 way system so i have a 4 15" that plays from 50 to 200. Mainly to take the presure of the 12" units.

What i was looking for is a link to a company that sells premade horns or if anybody had any used ones. the problem is time, i don`t have the time to build that much myself anymore. I really wanna do it but with family and everything its just not posible.

Im also considering just using them in a reflex system. they have a pretty high DB From 100 to app 2000 so it would be useable. but not matching very well to my Das 2" drivers that delivers much more DBs.

LMK what u think.

Best regards

Well, ironically enough, you posted in the forum entitled "porn horns"..Porn Horns are a ready made fibreglass horn section for a 12" driver, available from Pro Audio Parts I think. All you'd have to do is build a basic box/baffle assembly  to drop them into.

As for freq. range of the porn horn, and if your drivers will suit, can't say, you'll have to work that one out for yourself.. Good luck.

Now for the big Question. How

Should i spend 500-600 pounds and tests them out and sell them after the test if they don`t work  ? Just seems like a big waste if they don`t work.

I have some problems with figuring out if the last diagram from Mircea Bartic  can be made into a regular cabinet or not.

Again thx for your replies.

DYSW

the last diagram is for a MT122 with a slight larger mouth area (increase widht of enclosure) and a smaller throat (modify horn entry to suit your needs)

it is still preety much an mt122

I trhink I'll try to simulate a porn horn tonight to see if it can work with your diver (presumung the phaseplug fits on your cone...  hmmm)

by the way

you'll have to cross them at about 1000-1200Hz to some meaty 2" Drivers...

Sorry to resurrect this old one, but I am in need for a diy horn to fit the 18sound 12MB1000.
How exactly could the MT122 horn shape be altered?
Or does someone have any knowledge of a diy horn specifically designed for the 12MB1000?
I searched an awful lot but did not find anything except the old JBL 4512 enclosure that "seems to work" with the 18sound... but no valid information really.

what I need should play from 200Hz to about 800Hz...1kHz max.

thanks!
