New Bass Reflex midrange box I am designing Loading with dual Faital Pro 12FH500 drivers. Vb is about 47L. tuned to about 65hz, but I will most likely run it a fair bit higher (probably like 150) to control excursion. I just want to make sure there is a fair bit of over lap with my 1850s so I can move my crossover points around to see what sounds best. Will run up to about 800hz-1Khz. Already have some treble boxes, and just trying to replace some subpar yamaha tops that I have outgrown. Sims show these being very efficient midbass and pretty smooth low mids, but will have to build them to know for sure. Wood is in the car, and grills are already ordered. Drivers en-route too. Making some dust today. :)

Got all my wood cut, and glueing and screwing tomorrow. Had to fix one mathematical error for the placement of the baffle holes. Also mad my handles, and I really like my new jig. Perfect size for my hands. My old handles were bigger than necessary. New ones are snug but not cramped.
God, my first cut today sucked so badly that I almost called it a day. Somehow measured my first panel a full centimeter off on one side. Was not too happy about it at all. Everything else worked out pretty well though.

Finished assembling the boxes. Letting glue dry for a bit before paint prep. Still waiting for derivers and grills too. Conveniently was able to make the pair out of one sheet of Birch. Not the best quality sheet I have ever bought, but I think it should work out ok.

Looking good so far!
Are you going to do full grills on these? I'd put a small brace in the bottom port though, for rigidity. |

Yeah I think I might add some bracing to the port. I might wait and see if I have any problems first though, as that would be easy enough to add. The top of the vent is braced on the inside so I am really only worried about the bottom panel, but it is a rather small panel and I used 18 mm so it might be OK. I might also consider just doubling the panel so that I don't change the tuning or possibly increase the possibility of port noise.
Oh, and yes, full grills covering the drivers, but port will be open. Edited by b grade - 22 April 2013 at 3:24pm |

I just went and banged on the bottom panel and I think it seems pretty solid. no boominess or anything, so I don't think it will resonate much. If it does, I will just put in a small brace as suggested.

Finished with everything but installing the grills. Need to listen to them a bit to see if I need to do anything else inside the cabs like add dampening. First impression though is that the are very clean and bright sounding. No vibration issues at all, but I could not go full volume. So far, very happy with them.

Thanks! Very pleased with how they turned out. The sound is better than anything I have ever owned, and my build looks more professional than I have ever managed before. Can't wait to take them out for some loud time.
