Hey all, I've got labhorns and I'm looking to build something to go between them and possible res3sh so I would want it do from around 60 to 200hz ... how does the 186 sound in the upper ranges ? On the description its stated as being very musical/hi fidelity, does this hold true for the upper frequencies ?
Thanks !

No 186 for that range! To big and wont go that high. Also no need to go lower than ~90 Hz, if you got labs underneath.
Any 15" BPH should work fine. Try to simulate something in hornresp, search for limmer 115 or ask bee about his new cabs. |

USB was designed for exactly this. The dimensions fit so it looks neat and it sounds good when properly set up.

I prefer to cut the labs at around 60hz as they just seem to sound best there, otherwise you have to eq a lot of the upper sub freq out of them, so I'd really prefer to find a design that will go down to 60 or 70.

186 will certainly go down to 60, but like stated before, use of a 15 for kick would give a faster cleaner sound, and probably a more manageable size too.

Yes, I was originally thinking about using a 15 or a 12 as well.

That was my thought aswell. I dont like the idea to use 18" for that range, if you are not after a one-bass solution and need it to go as low as possible (USB). Tell my a size and a budget (i guess its not that tight, as your after some f1 tops^^) and i´ll sim a 15" bph against a 12" or 2x12" bph.

I tried a 15" BPH, 60 x 57 x 60 cm (i think labs are 57 cm wide?) with PD 158. Would be a really easy build, 106 db/w/m, -3db points are 70 and 200 Hz when you use 4 of them. I will post plan and sim when i know how to do it.

Would be very impressive to see a new bph design, with those specs, made up in only 2,5 hours. |

2 pi simulation is not that impressive, will try to improve it tomorrow. And i am going to sim some other drivers in that. The bracing in the backchamber is not necessary, i added it to decrease displacement, i would juse it for the door. Edited by corell - 18 September 2013 at 1:30am |

Hi Mark, I'm planning on using the R3SH because I think I would rather have a separate 2x 15" horn than the 1x 18" horn in the R3. A block of 8 labs sounds best cut at around 60hz imo.
