Hi,

I am about to use 4 of those pornhorns for P. Audio's 12B. Is there an dealer for the benelux ? And what kind of rearchamber does the driver need on this horn ?

With Kind Regrets,

Jaap

Goede Morgen

The only dealer is Proaudioparts as far as I know. Ask them for a quote. The rear chamber should be as small as possible according to Rog.

Kind Regards

Would a cabinet with 2 of those horns per cabinet would be an fit for my labhorns ?

Else i am going to build myself some FH's with Phase Plugs, because i am looking for an dual 12" hornloaded enclosure for my labhorns

The labhorn suffers from the same problem as almost all folded horns, it provides energy content high enough to in theory be coupled at the top of its frequency spectrum, but in practice they don't sound good used that high. By most accounts 80Hz is about as high as you want to use them for quality sound from what I gather (I have never heard a LAB)

Rog mentioned that a big stack of Porn would get you a cross of 120 IIRC, but it is probably a better idea to cross them closer to 140. This leaves a gap of almost an entire octave and is the birth moment of a kick cab.

The porn horn is a very narrow dispersion horn and generally it would only make sense to use them with two per side or more for mono-stacks. 4 Porn horns might give you what you want in terms of output combined with the same ammount of kick-cabs when combined with 4 LABS IMO (depends on the music)

If you are thinking of a 3-way using LABS, I don't see anything getting the job done (perhaps at a push a bunch of Tops using really loud 15s, but this would be a compromize in my mind) The horn-loaded solution is much more elegant, but pushes you up to 4-way.

How many LABS are you using in a stack? 4?

I talked about this with Rog just before he left. This is a c/p from the email.

Hi,

I would make two 2 x 12" horns per side. This is because you need the 12" horns to play to about 90 Hz. The LAB sub does not go very high, so you will need to have mids that go low. But two 2 x 12" horns will be very loud and you will need at least 4 LAB subs to keep up with them.

Or you could use two 1 x 12" horn per side but build something like the HD 15 for use fom 70 Hz up to 140 Hz.

Rog.

There is a variation on the Labhorn (version 3, if memory serves) that has better response at the high roll-off. Supposedly, it'll work out to 160Hz.

If you modified your Labs (no idea if that is possible) to that version, you might be able to get away with it.

LAB v.3 is a domestic design if i'm not mistaken. It uses a 3:1 compression ratio and is even more involved a build than v.2/v.1 (v.2 is with the originally intended rear volume and a more accurate folding).

The Subs to Tops question is largely a question of music or rather the (peak) energy distribution. If you can get 12s to play down to 100-ish, you'd need a fairly big horn or a couple thereof.

@ vivo, are you perhaps responsible for that insane staight basshorn?

@ tdsje : Perhaps one should start at the beginning, meaning what is the application. I always shoot ahead with a right doomsday machine where you might have a different idea.

No. Those 12" horns that rog is talking about in the mail are pornhorns.
