Hi guys, we have  a  woofer that have strange problem.... at low volume crackles and sounds bad ... but sounds great at high volume without any disturbance ... while the other cones that do the same action (same amp, same box and same frequencies reproduced) do not exhibit this problem, a pd 186 in a box es18bph ..... did you ever? does anyone know what it could be? thanks a lot

when not turned on, pushing on the cone gentle, does it rub or move freely.....

i tried...it move freely...but depends where i put my hands to move it, sometimes i feel a slighty stuck with a slighty rubbing noise

if you push down, giving even pressure with fingers around dust cap, does it rub....

if i do it around dust cap not, if i do it from external suspension ...  Yes..it rub!

have you taken driver out of cab and given it a good look over, checking rubber surround, etc....

of course except the noise when i move the woofer from external suspension......seems like a contact noise

yes, i play with this woofer in this condition from one year and never failed!!!Confused
...but now i decided to taken the driver out of his box and see what happens ... maybe is better to change it or repair it...i really don't know what to do...

Seems to me like a slightly deformed vc former that rubs a bit so it is noticeable on low power. But you dont hear it on higher level. I have had a few 12s exhibiting the same problem. Had to recone them Although they were working.

and with the recone the problem disappeared? or can i continue to use it? in your opinion what is better considering the cost of recone?
