hey

they're different.

Reflex drivers are on one end: you get wide frequency range and less volume, and horns are on the other: you get a narrower band of frequencies (usually loose out on the bottom end unless its huge) but a big increase in volume.

The SMT is kind of half way in between.  The drivers don't have a chamber in front of them before they hit the 'horn' so its not a proper horn more of a reflex drivers firing into a waveguide.

You do get a bit of volume increase and directivity from the waveguide, but you also keep a fairly wide bandwidth.

As for whether it's "better" that depends on the intended use, style of music, how many people, how far you're wanting to throw, area you're intending to cover. All the usual things.

LOL

I'm afraid that one bit of info doesn't help much. Are they close? Are they far away? Is the room long and narrow or wide and short? What kind of music? What kind of subs? Do you have dedicated kick bins? What quality of drivers are you putting in them?

Unfortunately there is no one speaker that is "better" than another in all cases, depends what your using it for.  Sometimes a small, light, easily hideable speaker will be the best one for a particuluar job. Sometimes great big dirty rock n roll boxes. Sometimes very narrow dispersion horns. Sometimes reflex to meet the subs, and yes even sometimes line array.

Once you narrow down the use case, genre of music, what amps and other equipment you may have or are gonna buy, and any other details you can give to go with it we can maybe help.
