Got myself one of the PPX 900's I need at the weekend

Here it is, a bit scruffy looking, but has potential!

Time for a look over, so off with the covers. Just a little bit dusty in there!

Channel "B" in similar condition.

Next dissassemble the whole thing, all front plastics into some hot soapy water, and hit the insides with Henry and a paint brush.

Inspect channel pcb's, all ok so reinstall back in the amp.
Now looking like this inside...

Much better!

Dry up the front plastics, and give the rest of the case a good wipe down.
put the whole lot back together and add missing bits....

All finished! Time to test it out on the hifi for a couple of days then into the rack ready to go

Yes, I don't think its ever been opened before. No cover screws missing and the little cable ties round the power and output wires still there.
Also original XLR speaker outs on the back.

If you had not told me explicitly that those pictures were before and after I would probably not believe you that they were the same model, good effort.

Sounds alright I assume? Did you check the bias per channel?

Good old soldiers, but as posted many times before they lack on LF.

A VX900 by comparrison has more oomph on LF.

Great to see you got it sorted Gaz. Take a good look at the 1W resistors on those that feed the long tailed pair, prefferably change them.

I've found those resistors burned on one of my PPX 1600 and replaced them (it was still working though!) on this one they were fine.

Sounds spot on, I love the sound of these amps. I didn't check bias on it, could do with service data for them really.

I don't have it unfortunately but I'm sure someone around here does. I would bet a fair few £ that it is a close design to the old standard MOS reference that everyone seemed to use. Was it Hitachi? I have that around somewhere.
