Now the truth is finally coming out. No wonder they are boosting 40hz like crazy.

nice work, but every plot has a dip at 70hz... is this to do with method of measurement, was each driver test given the same power, and was tests carried out with an lms or pre amp...

Think this is the first time ive seen plots posted on hear great stuff....

Every box I've built, admittedly in singles to test, MS18 Mk1, Mk2 (ish) Mk3, Tai Mini, Cyclops, Staip Mini, Staip Mini with 18, ES18, Cubo 18 and T18 has led me back to reflex for sound quality.
I am a little interested in the MS-46 though, if that plot is accurate the honk could be smoothed out and no kicks might be a reality?
Need a big driver, then will try.
It's everything, not everythink!

I too thought this was odd, (70hz dip) I didn't have time to investigate as by the time I did the last cab it was starting to rain, and I had to take two of the scoops back to their owners aswell as the 1850. I used my M-Audio, and output was going straight to the amplifier.

Interesting graphs! Good work!

Thats for single boxes, it all changes when you get stacks of 4 or more.

Stack of 4 will not make up for the 8-10db difference between 60hz and 40Hz. This is another proof of my talk that scoops dont really go low.

That would mean either boosting 10db or cutting 10db,would make no sense.

Im beginning to actually believe that there is a difference between actual weight (which according to some, old reggae sound systems used to have) and just loud.

The goverment sound vs operation sound clash video (althou not a good thing to compare from) in my ears sounded like that the goverment reflex stack was "heavier" but not as loud as operation scoops.

Maybe the illusion of louder bass makes it feel heavy when actually its lacking the real weight.

@reality did you do a loop back test of sound card and phantom power supply, it could be this effecting it. Basically you need to plug the input to output on sound card, and take a reading, this will add auto correction to any issues caused by a non flat response sound card. Even with this dip its very interesting test... great stuff...

@ app this is my view, and a lot of miss use of terminology, causing confusion... how many people actually know what 30hz sounds like....

I think people simply need to reach a roots / dubs session to listen & feel for themselves... scoops cant play low has been talked about on this forum for years & years.  People might assume reading this 99% of sounds including myself have it wrong & no nowt LOL  expierience will tell you different thing than assumption LOL
Dozens of members on this forum have heard & felt nuff 30-40hz form Operations scoops (& othes), some here are genuine hoonest people & tell it as it is,  others have thier own agendas.... Jus a few weeks back Paulus posted here abot OSS flapping his trouser legs with sub when our sounds met in Leicester, (Trendsetter is a no tin pan either, dem a very very heavy sound ;-), also, Sam PBS a respected builder & designer (megaton scoop etc) also will tell you same thing.

I like how scoops sound. No doubt. Aba Shanti & Jah Tubbys at tudor rose was absolutely sick, althou left me deaf for a few days which was also sick but in a different wayLOL

I just find it interesting that there has not been any measurements done with scoops until this. If there are Im interested to see them.

Other thing might be as NB said that for quality he always comes back for reflex. Could it be that the distortion as discussed elsewhere makes the scoops sound heavier than reflex too, althou they might not play as low as reflex. A guy who works with sound said that when people hear clean bass they find that its actually lacking something.

Of course I have my own cow in the ditch since I use reflex with my sound system. The first reason I built them was that I could actually do it (easy build). But now after a few sessions with the sound Im actually starting to understand that I made a good choice. I like how they sound! Still nothing wrong with scoops.

I like individuality in every sense. I like weird and different people and have respect for people who do things their own way, like goverment sound, who althou a big sound uses reflex, not scoops and is 2way instead of 3or4 way.

Its a matter of truth here. I like the truth even if it sucks its still the truth.

Hope to see more measurements of all possible boxes hereThumbs Up

edit. Of course every sound system is different from the other no matter what box they decide to use, which is coolBig smile
