    Posted: 21 May 2015 at 9:40pm
Hello everyone,
I've been thinking lately of getting a preamp for my sound system. Must be something like 5 or 6 years I've been wanting to, and I've come up with an idea that I wanted to run by sp: I'd like to be able to insert a processor in the preamp signal chain. Something along the lines of having outputs right before the xover, and inputs for each way, with a bypass switch so I can still use the internal Xover. I'm a live sound engineer, and am used to install and optimise sound systems, but it never occured to me to use that knowledge and workflow on my own. I very well know that there is a particular sound to a preamp, and in no way do I want to lose that, but it itches not to be able to time align, optimise xover points, set limiters on our bins (2x HOGs, 1x USB, MT130 style mids and comps on horns for tops).

I'm pretty sure I'm not the first one to have thought of this, just wanted some input on the idea.

Cheers

You could just take ful range out and then use a crossover or whatever you want. Not sure if thats what youre after.

the thing with a pre is that it gives loads of gain to drive multiple amps which you don't get with a xover

yes yu can by-pass the internal x/o in a pre-amp , just by strapping the bass mid top ect then send to lms or external x/o

also why value that? yu can just link amps of each orther?

If I take full range out, I won't have the parametrics and cuts.

Thanks for the answers guys, didn't think of the gain problem.

The thing is I would love to have all the good sides of the pre, and still be able to tweak my boxes. On a different note, I just saw that Jored's pres can be built with a usb-controllable Xover, did anyone have experience with that ?

No you will get the parametrics and cuts, and eq and everything.
The full range sum all the outputs together.
Lots of sounds play using full range output into LMS then amp.

This is how I think it works. If not get rid of your preampLOL

Try it with your home stereo or something.
