Alternative speaker to Martin Audio Bass Driver
I'm looking for an equivalent driver to the Martin Audio DLS111 18" Driver. I have managed to get some specs for it and as far as I know, they are accurate:- Re=5,85R Fr=30Hz Qms=2,382 Qes=0,277 Qts=0,248 Cms=0,2472x10-3 Sd=1134,11cm2 Vas=468l P=350W Sensitivita 98dB Z=8R Is anyone able to recommend a modern alternative? Matching purely on TS parameters, a few options that come up are:
RCF LF18N451 Precision Devices PD.184 B&C 18PZB100 - beaten to it by a few seconds I see! Void V18-1000 PD.184 I think is the closest match spec wise purely looking at the TS parameters.

Can you tell what the original driver manufacturer is? B&C? RCF? Would make it easier to choose something with the same chassis.
You probably don't want to be going for anything too heavy in that cab. Things like the V18-1000 are going to have a much heavier cone and need a lot more power to get moving than the original.

It's a tight cab as far as fitting the driver in phsically too isn't it?

Thanks lads.
Yes, I believe the magnets have to be quite small, so may limit driver options. Thinking of trying a modern driver in this cab. |

I believe it's ATC. There is another thread that mentions ATC being the driver used. Wouldn't want anything bigger than a 4" voice coil and a less of a sub type driver. Edited by Motion54 - 30 June 2015 at 8:27am |

Might be worth measuring up the cab and putting it into Hornresp.
ATC's are usually fairly shallow cones so you'll be looking for a driver which isn't too deep otherwise the magnet won't fit in the cab. I would probably be looking at some of the RCF offerings, maybe the L18S801.

The F1b had a custom celestion driver in it. They never had ATC drivers in them, ATC didn't do a PA 18" (till now!)
When I refurbed mine, I put the RCF L18S801 in them as I wanted a hard fast bass! but to be honest, I found them a little too hard for my liking and there was also quite a resonance at 160hz. After getting friendly with the folks at ATC, Toby took the challenge of getting the originals going again :) They now have the celestion basket and magnet, a custom cone (I believe a special for some tannoy cabs) and a ATC 4" edgewound voice coil an a titanium former. They are soo much more musical now and the snipe at 160hz is almost not noticable. Very pleased with them and the punch from them is insane will try and find some pics...
