What is your opinion. 2 different approaches to build drivers, 2 different sounds in scoops.
F. ex., when we look at 2 drivers like Oberton XB1500 and BMS18S450, we have the following numbers: XB: 7,5mm "real" xmax, BL of 30 BMS 12mm "real" xmax, BL of 26 We can also see differences in motor design, the magnet gap of the BMS is 12mm, Oberton has 14mm. That means if we calculate the xmax like oberton does to end up at 11mm xmax, it adds more in comparsion to the BMS, which would end up at 15mm xmax. ( add magnet depth/4 ) in real world, i have investigated that lower BL, high xmax drivers generally sound a lot better and miss not too much overall SPL in comparsion. What is your favourite motor setup ?

Depends on your priority.
Warmth, natural sound, from little added eq = Mid BL driver. Added eq giving Fireworks at 40hz, Staying in control with 800w+ Power input, High BL driver. Efficiency is a big deal for some crews. If all your venues have 3PH power, efficiency of drivers means nothing, bring all the boxes and amps you have. In a venue with only 13A plugs, or access to 1x 32A Ceeform, efficiency is a big deal, High BL, decent efficiency drivers like 1850, V18-1000, PD1851, OB 18XB1500, powered by efficient amps, will save you. PA guy's usually don't have to deal with venues where there is no 3PH, no 32A ceeforms, not allowed to tinker with Breaker boards or run power from Kitchen, yet need to cover 1500 ppl with deep warm sub. Which is why Reggae Sound system Scoop dudes, always harp on about bang per buck from 8x or 4x Scoops, and high BL/Efficiency drivers. However, there are some High BL drivers, which naturally play warm, in the right cab. <wink> Edited by levyte357- - 22 September 2015 at 4:39pm |

"Personally", wouldn't use any driver in Scoop, with BL < 30. Old Fane Chassis Turbomax 1000, with BL approx 25, really thumps and is warm. But just did not deliver the same lows as bigger brother 1200 (Approx BL=31), in right cab. Edited by levyte357- - 22 September 2015 at 5:45pm |

Some Reggae Soundsystem engineers, can produce warm, deep sub & SPL, from high BL drivers. Edited by levyte357- - 22 September 2015 at 7:00pm |

Need to hear yours one day Lev.. Nothing wrong with hooliganism at all lol ;)
Unfortunately most scoops i have heard are not really musical at all, lots of 40ish grunt many like and praise as the holy grail, to me theres more to be desired tbh., if 30ish hit you at almost same spl as 40ish, well than its fun imho :) but thats only me.. May i ask for some more details about gp? |

Fun, non scientific, not measured with Smaart, no mic at 1M, video, of testing some Inf8MK2 and Oberton 18XB1600.
Not much detail can be taken from phone mic, but purpose of test was trying out 18XB1600, with approximately 1200W input from amp. Amp average current display at times, hits approx 5.5A. (5.5 x 240 ) x .86 (Amp Efficiency) = "approx" peaks of 1135W, Bit more than the 400W, some said driver could withstand at max. One can see from video, in gig situation, if mains voltage didn't drop, 4x subs could easily draw peaks of 20A, playing "sub heavy" music types.. Well, gigs where decent sub amps are being used that is. Edited by levyte357- - 06 October 2015 at 3:47pm |
