Aye up,

Got a 15" scoop, wanting to know if the RCF driver will work in it.
The box was 'designed' around the OBERTON XB700 and thus has a chamber size of 30L (with driver in).
The throat area is 481cm^2.

I've changed my mind a little (as the RCF will give me 3db more output before XMAX, according to my sim), can I get away with putting the RCF LF15X401 in there? My main concern is the VAS is 140, and thus the chamber size of the box will be too small.

I'm sure someone will be along to tell me the only way to find out is to try one, but I want to know if I'm way out here or it might work.

I'm aware Jah chalice soundsystem use this driver in their scoops, They are a lot bigger than mine mind.

T/s parameters of the RCF:

  • Resonance frequency: 34 Hz
  • DC resistance: 5.5 O
  • Mechanical factor: 7.6
  • Electrical factor: 0.30
  • Total factor: 0.29
  • BL Factor: 26.5 T ยท m
  • Effective Moving Mass: 170 g
  • Equivalent Cas air load: 146 liters
  • Effettive piston area: 0.091 m2
  • Max. linear excursion (mathematical): 11.5 mm
  • Voice coil inductance @ 1kHz: 2.5 mH
  • Half-space efficiency: 1.90%

    Cheers

Yeah, agreed. two of the most disappointing things for modern EDM :  JBL 4520 and W Bins. They need sub, plenty systems found this out quick in the early 90's and that wasn't really sub as it is now.  However, if the 15's scoops are to play older music then could be a nice retro option?

You can buy 4x Used unloaded 18" SteveB scoops, drop in 4x used PD1850s, spend £700 on used 5K heavy, or big SAE, and have enough sub for 500 people.

Using 15" Scoops, dunno, dunno, dunno.
