Hi,

I have a shallow sub and would need to put the vent port on either side or top wall, see picture.

Is this possible or are there any limitations?

Thanks,

Marko

Just make sure you keep the internal end of the port away from the opposite panel, otherwise it will affect the tuning and potentially cause noise due to turbulance in the airflow.  I understand they're only sketches above but the ports there are too close to the bottom/left hand panels.

Hi, what would you suggest as minimum clearance (D of port)?

Rear porting a la some of Tony Wilkes cabs would seem a better solution.

The absolute minimum clearance should be the diameter of the port but that will most likely result in the effective length of the port being increased because the volume of air between the end of the port and the panel will behave as if it's part of the port.  Personally I would go for at least 1.5x the port diameter if not more.  At that distance you will still get some lengthening of the port so check the tuning and shorten if necessary.
