As I understood there is both a 4 ohm (Eminence's LAB 12C) and 8 ohm version of the lab12s. They would use the 4 ohm versions in series, meaning 8 ohm per labhorn.

I see. You could wire drivers inside labs in parallel and 3 labs in series will get you 6 ohm. Bridge amp.

Wouldn't it be easier to just wire each lab in series, resulting in 6 labs being 800W at 8 ohm?
This would mean I can wire 2 labs parallel per channel being 1600W at 4 ohm, leaving one channel unused. The PQM13 has 4 channels at 2100W 4 ohm. Wouldn't that be enough? Edited by Futendra - 04 July 2017 at 5:40pm |

Than 2100w/4ohm will give 525w per speaker (burst 1%). I would get all i can from this sae. This way above will be also safest (6ohm load on 4 ohm bridge).

pqm13, like most similar 4ch amps, is not designed to drive low cycle/freq. loads all ch driven, specially not at low impedances..

http://www.mlcaudio.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/PQM-series-4.pdf Shouldn't it be fine? If not, what budget amp would be a good option? |

How about 2 prolines? Similar budget. Unless transformer isnt an option.
You could also hunt old classic transformers on auctions but its job for months. I dont think you gonna find impulse psu amps for that price. Its rather this http://www.speakerpower.net/store/p18/SP2-12000-DP.html kind of price range. Or some rebranded amps like powersoft>>outline or lab grupen copy. |

3 prolines would be quite heavy and would take up a lot of rack space. Is there something smaller and more lightweight that could do the job? What exactly is the problem with the PQM13? As I read before, the labs do not require a lot more than RMS power.

It doesnt give its stated power. You can search for yourself. Search for amps that on 2 ohms gives closer to 2*4ohm power than 1*4ohm power. If spec tells power for thd over 0.1% its indicator that some funny buisness is going in spec. Keep in mind P=U*I so amp that gives for example 5000W should have at least 20A powercon plug not 13A socket. At least those are guidelines.
There is no perfect solution here. Basicly if you want new amp its not doable with impulses in budget you are expecting. In your situation I would be hunting ebay for classics. Add to list fat audio ffa. Its hard to say how much labs will take. Its not a standard speaker. I guess closer to program. But you have different music material. And as you see 1kW amp =! 1kW amp..
