There's so much bandwagon jumping, and follow fashion these days Luton, many people don't take the time, to design boxes for drivers and evolve them to high perfoming cabs..

I developed box for '52 class drivers, but no one really developed boxes for '51, so only few know which boxes '51 excels in.

I have prototype sitting in unit, waiting for testing with '51 for months. LOL

get your hands on a 18ds115 lev, should outplay the nlw9601 in dedicated scoop or looong FLH ;)

I wondered this my self too, but somehow i still prefer the 5.3 inch voice coil.
I never compare just the TS, need to try it side by side.


EDIT; I just simulated the 18DS118 against our custom 18NLW9601. So no, it does not outplay it by any means. It has exactly 1db lower sensitivity then 9601. Response is virtually identical.

Maybe it's something to do with: in a smaller box, a neo driver noticeably reduces weight. In a scoop, a neo driver means a two man lift is... still a two man lift.

Also, in a box that is commonly built at home or within the DIY community, a neo driver is a very large proportion of the total cost. In a commercial box (i.e. generally not a scoop) this applies a little less.

BL = 39 T*m, real xmax = 13mm, clever motor system too, its better than the 18s, if you go really low with large excursions this driver will always play with lots of coil in the gap ! Edit: cooling should also be better for the coil, trade off might be the copper clad alu 4,5 inch coil ! Has to prove that it can take the heat

Soo 39bl would mean the driver has a monsterish motor , fast as it can go?

in which cabinet did you sim the 2 ?

high damped drivers can make very strong notes down low, this one has ca. 3mm more x-max than 9601, more BL means also more control at high power levels and can receive way more eq to flatten things out without stress for too much cone movement. Still, the 4,5" coil is what makes me nervous a bit, also. Did anyone blow a SW18 and how ?

It has a 4.5 inch coil but they also state its lenght which is 40mm. I cant find this info for other drivers. If they bothered to put it up surely its different from the others.

Edit: is that winding depth?

I have tried believe me. Thought I had taken one out last week, but it had just undone some M10 mounting bolts on the box and you could hear them rattling

Been giving them full force of a K20, two 8 ohm drivers a channel. No hassle.

Yes Sypa, that is how to calculate x-max ( there is no real calculation for xmax imho because every driver is different and the important thing is how it behaves when the coil leaves the gap partly ), that means (40mm-14mm)/2 = 13mm
