I appreciate there are several old posts similar to this but they all seem quite outdated...

We currently have 4 x Void v18-1000 loaded wsx and were wondering if there were any newer, more modern drivers that we could upgrade to, to get the most out of our system.

We've tried with Matrix xt7000mf, Void Infinite 7 mk2 and PKN Xe6000. Running a mono stack coupled together from 37Hz to 70Hz (48db / oct butterworth on both high pass + low pass).

EQ: Gain +1.5dB / 41Hz / BW 0.24 oct

Am I better off getting Powersoft to notice a difference in sound or will a driver upgrade be more effective?

Possible driver options so far:

B&C 18tbx100

Eighteensound 18nlw9601?

Eighteensound 18LW2400

The V18-1000's are loud but just seem to lack depth / warmth. Ideally id like something neo (lightweight) with a higher power rating. Although I know whatever I go for cant have a stupidly high x-max due to the letterbox design of the wsx.

*forgot to mention above im using db-mark dp28 processing, running each channel of the amps at 4 ohms and on 2 x 4mm cable (4m lengths)*

Why not keep your existing drivers, and use the money saved to buy two more WSX?

The difference between 4 x WSX and 6 x WSX in a mono stack would give you the results you are looking for.

The combined horn mouth area would be 50% bigger.

Hadn't really thought of that if I'm honest. It would work okay when I have occasional access to a bigger van but at the moment we've just got a VW T5 & VW caddy which only just fits 4 x wsx, 2 x f2b and 2 x ohm trs 212 tops between them.

So if im honest it would be much more practical getting a better sound out of the boxes we have for now.

That is a fair point that you make. Also your system does seem "well balanced" at the moment.

I just think maybe the "letter box" loading, together with a sealed back chamber, point to the fact that the box may be at or near to maximum output already.

ie. Put more powerful drivers in and power them appropriately, and you are likely to run into driver excursion issues, and power compression / relibility issues as there will be nowhere for the additional heat generated to go.

Dont think u will get any upgrade from other drivers then the v1000 or the tbx100,
we are using the tbx100, with spacers for the bigger xmax then the original rcf l18p300.

We are very pleased, using two Powersoft K20 amps, on 16 WSXA subs ;-) output is massive.
U are also using the F2B, what is the best combination with the WSX, but we use different filters and xover point. ;-)

ive tried different drivers in the past, and made some measurements with the same power level. but the "original" drivers are performing way better then the new "killer drivers" out there, in a WSX...

The problem is your amplifiers..

Matrix XT7000MF, Void Inf7Mk2, PKN XE6000... Good Grief..

Try Getting Void Inf8MK2 to drive 4x cabs, or Powersoft K20 to drive 8x.

Use your outboard to add sufficient warmth. What parametric eq are you using?

If the L18P300 are performing way better why have you changed to tbx100? Bigger X-max in a long horn? Why?
