I'm referring to the top boxes that appear to be a single horn, but have holes in the sides, and are full range... is this something new?

It's a technology about 15 or so years old, started at Sound Physics Labs as Unity Horn and moved onto an updated edition called Synergy Horn that combines some Tapped Horn effects to extend low frequency corner and flatten phase response more at Danley Sound Labs.
They have a white paper here: http://www.danleysoundlabs.com/danley/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/The-Tapped-Horn.pdf And the patent for the technology is here: http://www.goodsoundclub.com/PDF/Synergy_Patent.pdf This thread may also be of some use: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/multi-way/237050-understanding-danley-synergy.html They don't appear to be a single horn, they are a single horn. This gives them huge advantages of being a true point source, with pattern control down way lower than competitors and a much more consistent 'image' - you can't separate the drivers especially with your eyes closed. Cheers guys, quite fascinating. I think there's some Danley systems at boomtown, I'll have to have a listen. Any plans for something similar... ha ha

Only two J3-94, on loan from yours truly - plonking them on top of Electrikal's Hogs and ES18 to help them cover 5000 people Quite a few DIY Synergy Horns out there, plus lots of info from Tom Danley himself on how to design your own, both in the patent and on various forum posts. |

You won't get plans, although Danley encourages DIY users to build and test their own synergy horns he doesn't do the same for the sharing of plans. Which is quite understandable given that they are the basis of his company. His attitude towards DIY builders is commendable in my opinion.

Ha, not bad for ten minutes mucking about with a free renderer for Sketchup!
She's only on for a few hours on the Thursday and maybe again on the Sunday in another part of town so make sure to pop by. |

note that most of the danley synergy / jericho is 2,3 or even 4 way passive while having a phase and frequency response close to the best you could achieve even with active filtering.
THAT is incredible for such a design and requires huge amount of skill and measurement data. The cabinet and drivers itself wont get you near the original on its own :) |

I am of the impression one major change from "unity" to "synergy" is phase coherence at the crossover- impressive for passive!

Am I correct in thinking the multiple entry horn corrects splay between entry points by symmetrical coupling?
