Not a speaker build but thought it might be of interest. I've been building a case to house a Formula Sound FF6000, with a 1u space below for rack mount sound card.
Setting up template to rout side panels. On the left you can see my jig for fitting threaded inserts accurately (based on this idea) The threaded insert jig with the top part removed doubles as an edge drilling jig Test fit of side panels I fitted the sides of the case with striplox fittings to allow deck platforms to be quickly attached and removed. Here's the side panel template ready to rout striplox recess Side panel with striplox in place Empty case, assembled. Inline setup with adapter panel for half rack width units (this can be removed allowing a full width unit to be fitted). The CDJ trays attach via the striplox fittings. Elevated CDJ platforms with space for 1210's below. The mixer case also houses a USB hub, power strip and a cheapy Ikea LED gooseneck. Elevated rear view to show construction. All the platform pieces slot together for quick setup / break down. Elevated top view Still some work to do on the platform panels - roundover edges and add some cable routing apertures, then I need to decide how to finish it all.

Two side pieces attach to the mixer case with the striplox fittings, crossbeam drops into slots in those, then the platforms attach to another striplox screwed to a block on the outer side of the vertical panels that the beam slots into. Will put a pic up next time I slot it all together. |

One tip for anyone contemplating something similar - using threaded inserts for rack mount gear requires a time consuming amount of precision. If I were to do it again I'd use m4 or m5 threaded inserts instead of m6 to give a bit more leeway for errors.

Possibly the worst movie ever, no soundtrack other than me shuffling about but should give you an idea how it all fits together. |
