A massive 3000 watts from 11 different amplifiers, hmmm.  Of course they were 80s watta, not present-day reduced-value watts, I'm sure

Wow, seeing stuff like that when I was a kid is what got me into it all, that's brought back memories of being stuffed in the back of a Marina van in amongst old HH amps, a Citronic deck and home made light boxes, can we go back please......?

Yes,great clip, this surfaced yesterday, I freezed-frame the speakers, seems to be a mixture of HH concert,HH unit system, and some Squires mini-bins there. Amps are HH s130's, 100w into 4 ohms! Certainly not the largest disco around at the time (Both Froggy's and Emporor Rosco's were considerably larger) but great fun all the same.

Smile
Be seeing you.

Back in the seventies one of the lads that used to work in our shops had a half decent disco rig of his own and he used to work regularly at the RAF club in Stafford and one week he was booked as a support DJ for the Emperor Rosco Roadshow--Now the RAF club was a big room but any system sounded good in there due to plenty of curtains and decent furniture and he was going to use his own rig in there until we warned him that Rosco would have a rather large Orange sound system in tow and he would most likely get blown out of the room.
Our hire crew got their heads together and due to having a night off on the date in question offered to bung one of our 12kw Martin Audio(4 large stacks) in there for him as it was only going to be sitting in the back of our 7.5 tonner anyway. Our guys set up our rig at the opposite end of the room to the low stage leaving the entire stage area purely for the superstar DJ and after a quick souncheck went off down the local chippy for some tea.
A couple of hours later, I had met up with them and we went back to the venue prior to doors opening and walked into a massive row between the club management and Rosco's road crew who were complaining about the size of the supporting DJ system at the other end of the room---It was quite obvious that Rosco was going to get blown back to the North Circular by our Martin Audio rig.
After a while it all calmed down and they were resigned about what was going to happen later on in the evening but did mention that Rosco was not going to be a happy bunny and later on he certainly wasn't when he arrived about half an hour prior to his due time onstage and witnessed the sound in the room(our rig was only just about ticking over at that time)
Immediately our four man crew(big very fit lads who could certainly handle themselves) were threatened by Roscos two man crew and "told" not asked to turn our rig down--now this was like a red rag to a bull and mysteriously, every time they were "told" our volume level increased and after a while the penny finally dropped what was happening.
At the end of the day, Rosco went on stage and sounded like a transistor radio in comparison to the sound of the support DJ and after about half a dozen records the room had emptied considerably from when he took over and he was not a happy bunny at all. After years of travelling the UK blowing other DJs out of the room he had suffered the same fate himself and he did not like it one bit.

We had another rather amusing night in Wolverhampton at the Students Union annual freshers ball in about 1973 if I can remember straight--every year they used to book a big name band, a couple of other local bands and a big name Radio One DJ---on the year in question, Showaddywaddy were the headlining band and Kid Jensen was the Radio One Jock and because Showaddywaddy owned their own rather large PA system(no-one else was allowed to use it)we were booked to put a hire rig in for the supporting bands,a local DJ and Kid Jensen to go through.
Showaddywaddy were due on at midnight and Kid Jensen at 10pm---He turned up late with his minder carrying a plastic carrier bag full of giveaway records(most of which were always a pile of crap which is why they were freebies)
He had got a real diva attitude from the start and quickly got everyones backs up who was there to help him.The local DJ who we all knew very well arranged to end his set at 10-30 and hand over to Kid Jensen who would begin his show with a quite long self proclaiming bullshit jingle on the jingle machine---Everything went to plan and the local DJ did his handover, locked up his record boxes and went up the bar for a well earned drink.
Well Jensens jingle came to an end,he went to play his first record and realised that he had no records on the turntables----horror and panic set in and his minder actually grabbed a couple of the crap freebies out of the plastic bag and put them on the turntables and Jensen had to play them amidst murmurings from the nearby students.
Now we had encountered similar situations like this before with Radio One Superstar DJs and it was usually easily sorted by the local DJ being asked to provide his record collection to the Superstar in return for either free T shirts, a pile of free records or even money changing hands on occasions.
On this occasion none of the above was deemed acceptable and the local DJ firmly refused to open up his record boxes leaving Kid Jensen no alternative but to do his whole one hour spot by having to use his bag of crap freebies.
Now we found this situation absolutely hilarious and everyone around us was laughing their socks off---all because of Kid Jensens diva attitude upon arrival.
It seemed that in the seventies almost everyone involved in the live music scene hated Radio One DJs with a passion and mainly for very good reason---The only guy that everyone used to respect and get on with was John Peel.
