Could you provide an amplifier circuit for the ZLX 12P?
And isn't there a complete circuit on the Electro-Voice ELX200-18SP ?

Can anyone share any solutions for a problem with the ZLX-12P DSP board (non-BT). Intermittently it blasts full volume white noise onto the LF+ output pin. I have brought up the DSP board on a lab power supply (without the amplifier board connected) and can confirm it happens on a stable +/-15V and 3.3V PSU. If I trace the noise back I can see it is emitted on the DSP output pin VOUT2.

There is no noise present on the XLR analog output pin (fed by the op-amp mixer section), or shown on the two level 'bar charts' on the LCD screen when this occurs. However the limit/LIMIT text shows on the screen, which from testing appears to be when the DSP output value is at clipping limit and has been scaled back.

It strikes me as odd that the DSP is reporting to the CPU that it is in output limiting mode, even though it is also reporting it has no input signal levels. Very strange fault -- however my customer has two units with this exact condition.

I have snooped the ADAU1701 DSP's SPI pins and can see that the chip is brought up by the CPU and has the DSP firmware/program loaded at boot. while I can setup a scope capture that triggers when the output goes noisy, I have not yet been able to capture DSP SPI bus at that time to see if it is the STM32 programming the DSP into fault.

Does anyone know why there is a flash/eeprom chip on the board, as well as the built in flash memory in the STM32? Does re-flashing the STM32 fix this issue? Many thanks for the diagrams posted above they were invaluable in getting this far.

I can see that I can replace the whole board however it seems like  this should be repairable with the right firmware or knowledge.

I would say the serial eeprom is for user settings with the default settings held in the main system flash rom.
I've had the signal board turn into a random signal generator too (sometimes goes BANG or POP or gently rustles) but have just stuck a new board in there.
I've never changed the DSP but I would suspect that before the micro itself TBH, don't know why, but DSP's do develop some very odd problems.

Also possible it's one the DSP peripheral components for example a ceramic capacitor, resonator etc gone intermittent or absorbed something from the atmosphere.

Note they changed the design (and size) of the 3.5mm jack on these boards half way through production which might cause minor problems.

Hi Kevin,
Good idea I will try probing the DSP resonator pins when the unit goes into fault. I had dismissed this because the DSP is still responding on SPI whilst outputing noise, however I suppose it could be isolated to one clock domain (e.g. D2A convs) while the logic domain is clocking normally.

I found that if you hold down the Jog/push wheel while powering the 3V3 line you put the DSP board into service mode. The Menu is as follows:

SERVICE MODE
1) HOST FLASH
2) DSP DEBUG
3) MENU EXTEND -> ON/OFF
4) SET MODEL -> ZLX-12P or ZLX-15P

Host flash mode I hope toggles PB5 to toggle the d-type FF I4, to pull Q3/Q5 low (nice edge to level circuit) to connect the 3.5mm input Jack to the STM32F100's SWDIO (ring) and SWCLK (tip) pins. I will bodge a lead together to see if I can dump the firmware using an ST-Link USB programmer. I have seen the firmware flashing process partially on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5bdbUTjoa4 with some of the key steps missing. I think it will allow extract.

I have no idea what DSP DEBUG mode could do... the ADAU1701 dev kits have a debugging tool but it seems to use SPI, so I'm not sure what this would do.

Enabling MENU EXTEND then reboots into the normal user mode, with two extra items at the end of the DSP Menu, which are:
1) THERMO-TEST which gives a read out of NTC1 and NTC2 pins a2d to degrees, and
2) LCD-PWM-TEST which lets you vary lcd duty cycle on PA8 via Q6 driver

There is also some sort of a command line prompt on the UART TX/RX on CN6 I captured on the scope on power up, but have not yet tried wiring up the UART.

Crown had a DSP problem with early XTi and similar amplifiers where the DSP could intermittently issue white noise or random tones. The service bulletin said it was due to faulty ceramic trimming capacitors around the DSP oscillator crystal and issued a mod, though I suspect it was really something designed on the edge of a tolerance band which they did not want to admit.

Hi, I'm new on this forum.  I have a problem with a EV ZLX-12P and I've tried downloading the schematics from Elektrotanya but had no success.  Could somebody please send me the three schematics to michpatri15@gmail.com? Thanks. Much appreciated. Mike.
