howdy all. planning on building a little pile of microscoops to replace my reflex subs to cover ~35-110hz and im curious about modern driver options (b&c as im located in the US)

I've seen staiper rec 15ps100 and 15tbx100 but that was many years ago and im wondering if theres better options nowadays. been thinking the 15nw100 would be a good fit, or im even considering dropping some extra $ on the 15sw100 or 15ds100’s if performance would be that much greater with higher bl, xmax, and power handling.

also, ive heard about folks putting 18's in there and was wondering if anyone had experience/insight with that they'd be willing to share.

cheers ✌️

Seriously think Staiper MS18 would be far more efficient, at reaching down to 35hz.

There would also be a large number of 18" drivers available to you, suitable for this cab,

B&C 18TBX100
B&C 18DS115 (maybe)
Void V18-1000

What is your main music type?

If you play many music types, 2x18 reflex, with mid BL drivers (eg approx 25) would sound flatter/better 40hz-110hz.

If you play mainly RnB/Reggae/Dub, pair of MS 18 with high BL 5" VC drivers, and big, quality sub amp, will match the output of 2x 2x18s, 35hz-90hz.

heyo, appreciate the response. i currently have eaw sb180s with the original rcf drivers which are pretty solid 30-100. play mostly dnb/jungle/dubstep/breaks/ukg and a little psy/tekno.

and ye minis would def be "better". but im thinking micros might be better for my use case. before i started throwin little renegades the plan was building ms18's, but i found that often times im loading in/out of storage by myself, and lifting micros is a lot more attractive/doable than lifting minis by myself lol. also, would prefer to keep it 3-way. from what i understand the minis would really want to be run with kicks, whereas the micros can meet my tops better. maybe running minis 35-100 to meet my tops would be an option though.

but no complaints with the reflexes honestly, just that nagging feeling that it could be better lol. and attracted to horn loaded bass since we set up outdoors and transport/power is limited. figured 4 micros mouth to mouth would hit pretty decent down to 35hz with the right drivers.

and not for nothing, theyre just way cooler than reflexes =]

If you want useful amount of sub down to 35hz, sometimes outdoors, in my experience, this is much easier with 18s.

For small crews/limited transport capacity, 18" mini Scoops are an optimal solution.
Just get ramps, so cabs can be rolled in/out.

18" Mini Scoops, can easily be crossed at 100hz, into   2x12"+2" reflex tops, for smaller venues, crowds.

right on thanks for the insight, was planning before on mk3 miniscoops cus i cant get void/pd drivers and ive read that tbx's (and other budget-ish drivers) can get torn up in those big chambers in mk1's. id love mk1's with drivers that'd do better in a big chamber but theyre hella expensive. maybe ill build mk1's and throw some 18nw100's in there to save some weight and just take it easy with power lol.

and my tops are 15+8+comps so maybe theyll even keep up with 4 mini's crossed at 100 lol.

The mk2s are worth a try, play a few hz lower than the mk3s and a bit better controlled than MK1. I have SB audience neros in mine and they've been great

They only way to get 18" mini Scoops to match 2x18 reflex in output, is to use big man drivers in the MK1, this is how you can get away with just 2x cabs covering 200 ppl, inside.

If you really want the above type of weapons grade Mini Scoops, then you'll need no compromise drivers, that can withstand 1200w "unclipped" clean input, in the Mk1, with 40hz hpf.

This is also all pointless, if your sub amp is not up to snuff.

I've heard what I class as probably the best 2x performing 18" drivers in mini Scoops, and my jaw dropped.

yeah i hear ya. if i had money for big boy drivers id be stoked to do that. those 18sound 9601's or bnc ds115's or something im sure would pound.
but i can drop about half that per driver haha, which may work in the uk with pd/void available, but here in the US thatll get me 18tbx, 18tbw or 18nw100s at best haha.
