Ok, here's one. Guy brought in a Midas M32 Live with one of the rotary decoder pots under the screen playing up. I popped out the board and replaced the faulty device with one I had which seemed to be the same, i.e. 5 pins with switch. Then on testing, the bloody thing is working in reverse, i.e. turn clockwise reduces the selected feature. I think that did happen to me once before ages ago, but can't remember exactly how I solved that one, but any clues here would be great. Ta. |

they come in forward and reverse phase, so you fitted the wrong one.
If you swap the 2 outper pins on the encoder section it will work the other way, though it's a bit of a bodge. The reverse encoder pinouts are a behringer thing. |

Ok, of course. Silly question - is that the 3 pin side, or 2 pins that need swapping? ![]() EDIT:- Ok, ignore silly question. Brain still a bit frazzled from the weekend... ![]() Just looked it up!! All Hail Google! ![]() Edited by Earplug - 21 May 2024 at 2:07pm |

Ok, sorted. "Bodge" working fine. Thanks for the tip! ![]() I did notice that a couple of the encoders did seem a bit "sluggish" on some screens, but I guess that would be more of a software thing. In any case, better for me to wait until there really is a problem rather than pre-empt anything. It's practically brand new, so shouldn't be playing up so soon. |

encoders will be dirty, possibly lack of use. They all fail eventually

I recently used a brand new m32r and a couple of pots were a bit off,
You have to turn them slowly, too fast and it would go sluggish,if that makes sense My 11 year old x32 have pots that behave in the same way,pan pot and buss send, even though they would have had much less use

Aye, everything will eventually fail, but component reliability does seem to be different these days. I regularly use a Yamaha LS9, that must be 3, 4, or 5 x the age of the Midas, and no such issues. All working perfectly. And yes - the "sluggish" encoders on the Midas worked ok on some screens, but on others were slow to react. Obviously a software/processor problem. It's like almost every software update you get on your phone or computer, that ends up slowing the thing down rather than improving performance. They generally try adding more bells & whistles, rather than actually improving the code. PITA. I often refuse updates if the program is working fine. |
