Hi,

Im building a soundsystem and we already made 2 18” hogs. Now we’re debating on What kicks we should build. I really like the ES 15 BLH’s because of their similarities with the hog scoops. Now my question. Are these good for the kick section and What are suitable drivers? We can buy Some beyma 15P1000fe V2’s for a good price.

Thanks in advance

Absolutely not, the ES15BLH is a sub woofer and really works best with a kick bin on top of it, it is not suitable to be used as a kick bin.

The best free design out there for a kick bin to pair with hogs is the ES18BPH Electrikal version (which is width matched to the Hog, unlike the original ES18BPH), just make sure to use a suitable driver for kick and not a monster sub driver as they will sound crap in them.

TBH I do not know if it will be suitable as I don't know a lot about what works best in them but that Beyma driver looks to be more of a proper sub driver than something that will sound good playing higher notes which is the hard part of getting a kick bin to sound good.

I do know that some friends of mine had Void V1000 in their ES18BPH's and they sounded terrible as a kick bin. When they swapped to a lower power, smaller voice coil driver they worked a lot better (above X1 bandpass subs) as a kick bin.

BTW the ES18BPH is an 18" kick bin so that 15" beyma will not fit in it.

If you want something similar in a 15" then the HD15 would be a similar thing but not really the best, again no idea if that Beyma driver will work well in that box.

I have been seeing a lot of people building the Cubo Kick 15" and giving good reports on those as a 15" kick bin solution but I've never used one myself so cant comment on how good they are.

I would have to agree with the above, the Elektrikal 636x636 version, is my 2nd fav 18" kick above Scoops.

The only cab I rate better, is the Turbsound  THL-818.

Only because, when I had them, using specific smoothing eq, I could play them 80hz-500hz.

No rear firing BPH, will do this as well as the Turbos.

That was with Turbo Fane 18" Drivers, reconed to Colossus 18B spec, by the illustrious RMJ, in Bradford.

These days, if I ever return to Reggae Scoop scene, I have 4x 3x15" reflex cabs, that fit nicely above pair of 18" Scoops.

If I loaded them with 18sound/B&C high sens screamers, and simple LMS smoothing,  that would be effortless 75-500hz, flat as a ruler, inside and out
