Hi,
as topic finally i built my first 2 HD15 (other two are in progress), i've done a mix of davey's and vitor's ways for the construction. The box were made like davey's and the curved section using a stamp like vitor's. Not using any type of wadding yet.
For the driver i used Fane Colossus 15B-600 because was the first available within 30 days... (called everywhere for ciare, p.audio, 18sound, b&c but nothing were available in short time), power amp is Alto running 1400w@4 ohm with the 30 Hz HPF on.
Xover is Proel with 160 Hz LPF on.
I have little problem with vibrations, but they're audible only within 1 meter, the real pain is the sound quality.. I don't know if is xover fault, driver fault, mine fault or something else fault but the sound of that boxes is all but fast, punchy, kicky or defined. It's something really booomier, nothing good.
Today i sould get a behringer digital xover, and hope using them within 80-180hz range will improve quality but i don't know if there's something to fix or if i've done something wrong.
Starting to think i've spent 800€ and many days of working in a veeeeeeeery bad way!

Any suggestions?

Did you break in the speaker by applying for example 50 W 50 Hz for 24 hours ? With many speakers, that changes a lot.

i would suggest that a 30hz hpf is far too low for 2 hd15 or even 8. especialy as the 15b 600 has a lower bl and higher qts than the pd154, meaning it has a little less controll over itself. you want to hpf around 50hzish i'd imagine. your new crossover will sort that out.

To fernand: i'll try to do that but first must find the right place.. neighbours won't be too happy about loud noise

Yesterday i made the first gig with my quite complete rig, 2 proel 2x15 reflex sub (crossed at 35-80hz), 3 hd15 stacked vertically (xover at 80-180hz), 4 proel 1x15+1x1 tops (180-19khz). Complete system is 5000 watt.
Outdoor music, house/techouse/techno/trance/goa genre.
Police made us turn volume low many times because people at 150 meters couln't even hear the television..
With the DCX2496 the sound quality is improved really much, and now i must admit hd15 are quite good for punch/kick (horn sound compression is too cool ), i had to tie the boxes together because they were jumping all around... The only problem remaining are vibrations, you can hear them within 30 cm of the horn, anyone knows how to eliminate that problem? Maybe wadding can help?
Next gig i'll try to make some measurement with smaart and 4 hd15.

Regards

Perhaps check the cab for any leaks. Properly built cabs don't vibrate on their own.

did you use ratchet style straps or just rope? we did a party last wkend and no one got around to properly strapping stuff down.  At first i thought the rattling of wood sound was my basshorns lack of bracing, until i realised when pushing the other cabs next to it a few mm's away the rattling stopped. when cabs are touching they need to be very tightly strapped together, also wheels and old access panels on old cabs etc can make nasty sounds up close or behind a stack sometimes: so it may not be your internal bracing unless you skimped on precision from the hd15 plan.
