ello ello!
long time lurker 1st time poster so few of us decided to build a rig (3 way) - got access to a cnc & tablesaw and are decent chippies - not pro but build difficulty is not rele an issue. so far we have for the subs- 1 x bnc 18nw100 8ohm driver - we plan buy 1 more and then most likely two other cheaper drivers that will eventually be upgraded for the kicks we have 4 x fane 12inch drivers (we not sure what they are see pics) and we wondering if there any single or double kicks - although from what we understand we'll get more out of singles - which we will be able to crossover at 90hz. we want to cross relatively low to make sure of the higher hz problems arent an issue with the th18s. A friend also mentioned that the horn path of the th18s will cause a delay which could be difficult when linking up with front loaded horns, we are happy to learn and work this unless its going to a real pain. we have two yamaha tops which will take over from the kicks we will mostly be playing tekno with abit of jungle and drum on the side (mostly indoors) (: thanks for all the information - legends- incredible to have a source like this |

if you mainly play inside there is almost no reason to build horns, if the space you got isnt huge af go for BR i guess
if im not mistaken you did not mention what bins you have in mind, just drivers, thats not enough info to pick kick bins, choose a bass bin and then you choose kicks to go with it Edited by BrainlessTekno - 14 January 2026 at 11:52am |

Why should he not build horns for inside?
Been using horns inside many times, with great results. Sometimes switched to horns on repeating gigs, just because the layout of the venue didn't work well with BR.

Subwoofer design is already specified in the subject line..... (Though I agree with sorting that out before going on to choose a kick design.) @OP, if you're not already familiar with Hornresp, then you're best to either get used to it or at the very least head over to the TH18-XOC1 thread @ DIYAudio and check that the NW100 is suitable for that design. If not, then it doesn't really matter if you already have one or not - the wrong driver in a horn could end up being a big disappointment. Also, whatever driver you settle on, save up for more of the same when you want to scale up the rig - adding mis-matched drivers runs the risk of them not performing as well, potentially even to the point of the combined set sounding worse than the originals on their own. HTH, David.

The 18NW100 work but the budget shows in the lack of power before x-max is exceeded. 70V A
B&C 18SW115 May be £450 instead of £270 but at x-max - 102V its
about 3db louder which is maybe not surprising as it takes double the
power!
