Not sure Cowfoot, could try & find out, all I can say it's a fair size compared to most sports halls & quite high, as a double extendable ladder is needed to get the cables run to the speakers.
It's not as high as Stratford Rex though.

I think that true horn terminology would have this dubbed the front chamber, as the driver fires into it-albeit the rear of the driver. A scoop doesn't have a front chamber, as the driver radiates into free space the other side.
Interesting thread though.. definitely think the superscooper design can be massaged into something that gives us a bit more of what we want.
Rog says super is optimised for spl, rather than low end, so I guess it really is going to be a compromise between the two. I'd say only way to keep the spl and gain lower cut off would be even larger cab size-or something that isn't a scoop!
Someone mentioned angling the front baffle like a microscoop. Check moray james' thread "what is a scoop anyway" . seems there could be advantages to this approach(bigger mouth size at least). Even Rog said it might be worth a build to check results.
Also been sketching out a few other ideas, including an extra fold in the horn, along the lines of the AJ horn james posted in above mentioned thread. Extra horn length should make lower cut off achievable.

nope never. my guess is that the sound will be louder because of the larger horn length.

I thought, horn length lower's cutoff, decreasing compression chamber increases output, but raises lower cutoff, increasing compression chamber increases lower cutoff, but at expense of Xmax ? I also remember reading somewhere, longer horns need stronger motors (Higher BL?) to push the longer column of air. Just looking at dimensions, the back panel is approx 40mm further back than in the 18" scooper plans, so Tekasis's volt will fit in there. I guess its the Xmax 9mm+/5" voice coil club only for trying 18's in this "lil beasty" at any decent power. Edited by levyte357 - 03 January 2007 at 3:05pm |

Remember seeing them pics of scoops which Mykey posted, which were loaded with Volt drivers ?
I wonder what design scoops they were ?
Where you @ Mykey ? Can you shed some light on this please ? I still don't believe you cut a hole in the rear panel behind the magnet as you previously mentioned.
Does anyone know the internal measurements of the Stravens scoop ? & how far back is the panel in the rear chamber ?

I wonder if anyone has ever built 21 inch scoops or even 24 inch scoops? I know Jah Tubbys custom builds 21 and 24 inch scoops for people on a special order. But any reggae sound systems actually use them though? Drivers for 21 inch scoop can be: PD2150, Beyma 21L50, Eighteen Sound 21LW1400, P. Audio SD21[huge 6 inch vc], P.Audio HP-21W, P.Audio P210/254. Very surpised theres that many 21 inch drivers out there. Drivers for 24 inch scoop can be: PD2450,P. Audio P240/254. |

hello everyone , i am thinking of building 4x 21 inch scoops but i have a problem with driver choice. the pd 2150 is no longer available, so i was wondering if anyone has tested any new drivers or which ones are currently the best for this box. I would like it to be a neodymium driver for longer durability. I was thinking of using a CVR AUDIO 4ohm:2x5600W 2ohm: 2x9500W amplifier, so that is the maximum power that can be used. I would like the same amp to work for me if in the future I build two more scoops and work at 2.6ohm because I don't trust that amp to work well at 2 ohm. if someone answers me, thank you very much for your time and help. bless |
