Being as no one's posted plots of the impedance, phase or frequency response of drivers in the suggested horns, I guess a measurement mic, finished cab and a copy of speaker workshop would be the place to start if you wanna do it properly...

and if you didnt want to doi it properly??
jokes! it seems that one of the major draw backs of the punisher/xtro combo is the sheer power and number of amps needed. it seems to me that a passive for the 8+1 would be a damn sensible idea. surely from the info that is availiable; cross over freqs, delay and gain structure this could be sorted. ive got the info somewhere, il try and dig it out |

On my Xtro, I've asked for Insomnia to do 2 sets of 4 pole Speakon sockets (and 2 for linking out).
That's so that one of them can simply have the 8" on 1+ 1-, and the 1" on 2+ 2-. Since most decent amps seem to output channel 2 on the second set of pins of the channel 1 speakon, this means I can simply run a 4 core cable to the cabinets and link between the two there. I'd rather invest in a decent amp that gives more flexibility than try and bodge a passive crossover on a DIY cab. |

You'll probably find you can get away with just a high pass filter on the 1" as the 8" will drop off like a stone at it's upper end. Then just parallel it with the 8"

If I get bored one day, I might design a crossover for this. It's likely to be a few weeks though!
Only problem is, I don't have a DE500 to measure. I've got DE250s and 8PE21s though, so I can design something based around the DE250. I'd have to look at the impedance plots to see how much they differ. Personally, I'd go for the DE250 instead of the DE500 if I was building an X-Tro anyway because they're a lovely sounding driver, 1.5dB more efficient and have a higher power handling. |

Hi mate, this is what I am doing, but the 8'' seems to give horrible distortion when fed with HF, (above about 8kcs), nasty ''splashing sound'', I was considering using a filter circuit to cut off the Hf?
