Sometimes the recone kit can be 40 less than the new driver. Sometimes all components come in a 5 pack when you only need 1. Sometimes the kit comes in 3 pieces sometimes 1. Sometimes the glue is in the the kit some times No..

People on the forum are trying to find best economical solution for the o/p sometimes that's the recone master Big smile

Ok.

How are you removing the glue - acetone? That is the most common method and can be nasty. I definitely don't like the stuff, so prefer to just let someone else have the job.

Like mechanics. I used to do almost all the mechanical work on my vans, but gave that up while ago. Besides the fact that vehicles have become a lot more complicated, I also tired of getting covered in oil & grease! I now just stick to what I'm good at -and enjoy and let the experts do the rest!   Smile

Nop im using heat gun and cutter, easier than acetone.
I understand what you mean but the expert start by learning, no one arrived and say “I know perfectly how to do it without experience”
Now I’m here to get some tips and infos to be better at music science and maybe one day you will send your speaker to a recone company and it will be me ^^

I’m starting to repair my own speakers, and I got some issues with the replacement of the voice coil.

I got 3 ref different and no indications of the height of the cooper around the magnet, if you guys got this info somewhere Cry

I got 2 wharfedale D-161, 1 B&C 18ps76 and 1 B&C 18ps100

Thanks you !

Just read through this thread......to state the obvious, i assume you are re-using the existing cones, and just fitting new voice coils, yes? In which case, just copy the position of the old existing blown coils, and fit the new coils to match the depth of the windings exactly?  Assuming your new coils are identical to the blown ones, should be no issue then.
Be seeing you.

Here is a method you can use most loud speakers are overhung VC.

Measure the top plate on the magnet for thickness say it is 10mm and say your VC for example was 20mm in height measure the coil and put a slight mark on the coil with a marker to mark the center now measure 5mm up from the center and put a mark there that is mark that will sit level with the top plate.

It is very important to clean the gap the best way to do this is with card and masking tape. Also clean the old glue off the basket you want a clean flat surface.

It is also important to use the correct glues in places, surrounds to basket you can use Evo stick, spider VC and cones use a decent epoxy.

You also need to keep the VC center in the gap and to do this find a suitable size shim and also always remember to align the tinsel leads to the basket terminals before gluing the kit in.

I have probly explained the process crap as I've had a few tins but I hope it helped in some way.

All you need to do is get the middle of the Voice coil to sit in the middle of the top plate assuming there is no weird pole plate malarkey going off and it is some standard t pole piece.

I've also just read this back from last night and I don't know if you are refering to the coil height you need.

You could roughly work out the VC cross surface area from bl and re.

Could be tricky to work it out with Xmas as that is linear excursion and near the the end of Xmas most drivers have a slight reduction in BL around 30 percent. What this means is near the end of Xmas there are less windings in the gap.

So it could be possible to work out or get very close.
