Hello everyone,

Today I decided to do maintenence cleaning to the entite amplifier rack. The moment I opened up the xti6000, I had the surprise you can see in the picture. A completely open, corroated (and with short circuit, I assume) capacitor.

Surprisingly, the amplifier is functioning. Needless to say, the moment I saw it, I never turned it on again.

Now the question is, should I bother having it serviced, or given the level of corrosion, can I assume that this amplifier is a time bomb, no matter what I do?

The Cap Exploded. You need to get it serviced to prevent any more components failing trying to operate it.

Best Regards,

can you upload the pics on here? The links to remote sites often break, rendering the thread useless after a time

I started out in this business with nothing.
I still have most of it left.

The capacitor has overheated - the moisture inside (the electrolyte) has boiled, turned to steam, and split the top of the casing.
The casing is designed with a set of grooves in the top, so that instead of exploding and causing a lot more mess and damage it just splits apart.

Given that the amplifier was still working, it should be a simple repair - you need to have all those electrolytics replaced because they are nearing the end of their service life and will all fail the same way before long.
