Not sure what sort of winch you`d need, dependant on just how heavy the tops are I guess.
I got the quad, I might give it a go if my mate is keen.

I had thought of that too, but the logistics of getting a sufficient quantity of truss to build something that will hold around 300 kg safely in the wind at 6 meters height was a bit of a challenge - besides... the cost of renting those telehandlers wasnt much more than the cost of renting the truss, so I opted for the telehandler solution as it was much easier ( and nescesary - the field was so wet and soft that the 12 ton truck I was driving sank in and needed to be towed to the stage area with a telehandler)..

you dont need a winch - you need a manual or electric chainhoist ( CM Lodestar or Chainmaster are popular choices if you want electric hoists over here )

btw, what was the gap inbetween FOH and stage? Looks pretty tiny in that pic, 2k people would have been a nightmare - and the crowd barriers.... oh dear

Approx. 20 meters - I would have placed FOH a bit further back. but the organisers had kindly planted a 10 meter tall baywatch style tower there as a kind of decoration or something..

crowd barriers - well... this event is basically a battle of the bands for young teens - there is no alcohol on site ( 'cept a few handfuls of blue Thor that some of the attendees at woolfire a few years back will remember ), so it wasnt really nescesary..

2K punters - thats what was expected to come through the site during the day - not the total crowd..

The whole thing is put together by a handful of parents in a very small community, so basically they tried the best they could - and apart from some glitches wrt crowd barriers, baywatch towers etc. they did a pretty good job considering they've only done it twice..

Gennie setup, site powerdistrobution, area fencing, catering etc. was excellent..
