Although the 9040p is rated as 90d horiz because of its profile it narrows considerably as frequency rises.

Try arraying them with the two boxes you have and see if lobing is an issue.

TONY, in another post i read you say :"4550 will work down to 800hz BUT only with one horn loaded 12" I would not use them with 2. Change to about 1.2 K if used with 2 Horned 12" ers."

Can you explain why please?

Because of the output required I do not see the 4550 being able to keep up with the twin 12" drivers if crossed at 800hz. You will probably get away with it regards not blowing the driver but no comp sounds that good when being played balls-out. Even at 1.2K it will be pushed.

If I run MT212's I have to admit that I would stick a 4590 (or 4592nd) on tops and allow this to do 750hz +, a lot more expensive though.

What about a stack with two 12" in MT121 and two 4550 with RCF H94 then?

No problems at all if you do that, a bit more flexible as well, it also becomes a one man lift.

hey

for those who were looking for the RCF horns, things have just changed in the UK.

Audio workshop were the component sales and service centre for RCF in the UK, when i contacted RCF in the past they put me on to them and i got 4 HF64's from them (also to run on BMS 4550's.) Soldily built, nice thick aluminium and the cabs should be up and running end of this week barring no big work things coming up and taking my time away, looking forward very much to hearing the combination.

However with the passing of the audio workshop founder, i just read in L&Si that the contract has now went to Ampman Audio, so I assume sales for drivers and components will also have moved there.

The plots below show the measurements on and off axis of a horn I have made. I have not actually seen the bms horn but judging from the photos mine is quite close. See photo lower down. The drive unit is a paudio bmd 750.

As you go down the angles are, 0, 10, 20, 30, 35, 40, 45. The divisions are 3dB and traditionally the quoted directivity is at the -6dB point. Don't forget my measurements are for one side so the 45 degree represents a 90 dispersion pattern.

As a comparison this is my round horn with the bms 4524. The highpass filter was set at 500Hz in both cases

The 10 degree plot obscures the 0 degree plot except for at high frequencies. The netx plot down is at 20 degrees then 25, 30, 35, 40, 45.

TONY,

I read you say in another thread "If you do not mind exponential then look no further than the Celestion H1-9040P great value horn that works well with BMS 4544 & 4550,  Just make sure the comp has a brace to support the weight.
This horn loads to as least 800hz ( yes I have done the measurements)"

Why not make this choice then, it's way cheaper than the RCF!

I could use two 4550 loaded ont top of my two 12", with 900hz crossover?
