Lovely small but detailed festival in its first year. The "body and Soul" area in the Electric Picnic here is very popular, and this year the people behind it ran their own event at Ballinlough Castle.
Main stage. L Accoustics (i think) by Litton Lane (i think). 6 tops a side, 2 more for infill. 6 subs a side, in cardoid (i think) arrangement; outer ones facing forwards, middle pair reversed. Looked like lab gruppen amps. Some pics of this lovely stage at various points in the weekend...
Merkabar electronic stage. Funktion One by Will Softly (one world sound system). this each side.
"Natasha's chocolate love and tea emporium" tent. FK1 by will again, this time with him on the music too. tent was crowded all weekend, lots of funk coming out of here.
The Birdcage tent. small system but did the trick. much fun had in front of this by many over the weekend. tent run by External Sounds from drogheda.
The Bar. system in here by me. last minute call on friday afternoon. very little space in the bar tent to set up so squished into a corner. various live stuff during the days, DJs at night. good fun.
and absolutely honourable mention to hippy steve's contraption in the Bin Your Empties / Be Your Environment rubbish recycling / art project tent. wood, speakers, roadcones..
oh, and there was another geo-dome somewhere with a little jbl set up in it too i don't have a pic of. Class weekend all in all. Not a cloud, lovely site, really chilled vibes. all good with me. |

This is totally a festival vibe I like. The main stage is a work of art in its own right.
Only sound system I think I can say looked awful was the one in the bar tent. I don't know who set that up by they ought to be shot. Only pulling ya leg! |

that violin guy was really good. his name is peter and he's from czech republic. he played backing tracks off a minidisc or something and sang and played violin along with it. really good.
i got a call from one of the djs in that tent, he'd been told that there'd be a small set up in there for the poets and comedians and small live acts that would be on in there in the day times, and could i bring something a bit more for the djs in the evening, maybe to integrate with whatever was there.. so i just brought 2 stacks. got there to find the tent was pretty full of bar, and fire exits, basically nowhere possible to put stuff other than where i did, the dj table was in place. saturday afternoon and there's loads of live musicians showing up to play.. nothing else there for them.. so borrowed a little 12 channel mixer off another guy on site, dance stage lent a handful of mikes and stands and a couple of DIs, and we muddled through. saturday didn't go so well i thought, there were djs in the morning, live stuff, then djs on and off all day.. and the decks table thing took up most of the room so musicians sitting in front of rig = not the best at all. and the bar was right beside the main stage hehe. but sunday the schedule was more sensible so dumped out the decks and table in the morning which made just enough space for people to do their thing and sunday i thought went much better. decks back in for the evening session then. all good. |
