Anyone ever used these speakers for installs etc. picked up a pair at an auction and planned to use them for a small bar install but they seem to have really low output before speaker starts misbehaving. Supposed to be twin voice coil and 350 watt rms at 4 ohm but nothing like that. Very strange design - looks like a baffle literally sitting on the cone. Brand new they’re not cheap so I was expecting a lot more power.

Post a picture! Then we know what we're looking at, and whether they look different from how they should look.

If its the S12.1 subwoofer you're talking about, the manual states power handling of 175w PROGRAM per coil, and the EV datasheet states 200w CONTINUOUS EIA total(i.e 100w per coil), so both figures are way short of the 350w rms you were hoping for.

More importantly, a calculated max SPL of 127dB.

That's not bad for a single 12", but might not be much if you're used to larger & heavier subs. Also calculated, not actually measured. Real SPL might be a lot lower.

Are the drivers original? Its a bandpass design that requires a driver with specific parameters so some random driver will not work correctly. But even with the correct driver it has a response peaking around 80hz so it's not exactly earth moving.
