I got the PS3 for GT5 when it came out and was surprised by how much other stuff it does (aside from the bluray player)
It's now very much an integrated part of our home network and the only downside is Sonys crap attempts at DRM which just frustrate the experience. There are workarounds but they make the whole experience less slick imo.

Xbox:

Pro's: Has the best controllers, lots of great games and good online support (but you have to pay for it). Kinect is cool but not very useful imo. Looks better than PS3.

Con's: No blu ray as standard, have to pay for online stuffs, hardware's not quite as good as ps3, RROD.

PS3:

Pro's: Great hardware, blu ray and DVD upscaling as standard, free online, more and better online services (i.e. youtube, ipayer, 4OD, ITV etc...), Great games and the PS3 network is open to connecting with other networks so you have games like Dust514 and M.A.G. Connects with PSP and Vita which is cool! Some of the classic PS 1 and PS 2 games are available to download and play on PS3 :). PS Move is cool but again not very useful - only certain games are worth bothering with.

Con's: Orange light of death on the old fat consoles, controllers aren't quite as good as Xbox and seem to wear out a little faster.

Other: Nintendo i guess, meh!

Get a PC and civilisation 5 and Shogun 2 TW, then dump your Mrs. You don't need her anymore LOL Well not for a month or two anyway.

Actually mine really likes playing Civ 5, which was a pleasant surprise. Until the first nuke gets launched anyway.

yeah games like civilisation require the dedication of ones life, but they are very fun (while your immersed in all of it).

True :) But then I'm really not a big games person, infact I don't play unless I'm forced too lol.
