And not just jazz.  

I´ve got a couple of cheap electrets I bought from RS years ago that take 1.5v battery so don´t need phantom - and sound unbelievable good for what they are. Using one or both of those over the toms just give that little extra. Also, I like the idea of no phantom, as smaller desks usually only have universal phantom, which is a PITA.
