hey guys, got a bit of a prediciment. i was planning on building 6 punishers and 2 extros or having them built for me and running them off crown XTI series amps. but i'm now goin to be off to aus for a year nxt december so it seems pointless forking out thousands.

i've been think thinking instead of building a "disposable" rig made up of 6 18" superscoopers and 4 mid-tops, something by mackie or jbl maybe. going to be playing d'n'b and breaks mostly but the odd bit of acid techno mostly outdoors for crowds of up to as couple of hundered. everything is goin to be run of cerwin vega? c-mark amps.

opinions please. cheers

surely that will end up more expensive? scoops use more wood and will require more expensive drivers given how cheap the ciare 12 for the punisher is. If you want to save money perhaps use some reflex mid-tops over the punishers rather than x-tros

or perhaps buy some second hand scoops, 4 15" scoops sold on ebay recently for under £100

its more the amps im thinking about. got a mate with 4 c-mark mr2450s wich would be fine for the scoops and ive already got a pair of CV2800s aswell to run the tops. sh*t load of blown 18s aswell that can be reconed.
the crowns would set me back a few grand as would the 18sound/ B&C drivers for the extros
literaly looking at getting a rig that wont mean to much hastle if our friends in blue are likley to seize it.

in my experience, playing nuskool breaks and techno on scoops can sound pretty wrong. some tracks with long sustained bass line notes can sound alright but anything with a quick stucato [think that's the term? i'm a dj not a musician LOL] notes sounds muddy and barely recognisable. seeing as i like that style of breaks i found myself having to ignore half my record bag at certain gigs. Ouch

edit: though if all you play is breaks with reggae/dub samples it'll probably probably sound wicked Wink

the only thing more dangerous than a person who doesn't give a f**k is a person who gives a sh*t.
