paul are you saying the traditional PD chassis is being ditched?
that's gonna raise a few eyebrows for people wanting to upgrade, (if so).

Yes, the face will look similar, but the lines of the main chassis will be a lot smoother. The CAD drawing look very nice.

OK. That means current pre release '52s, will be worth less then. ![]() |

Not really, as far as I'm aware there has only been 12 built, they are still good drivers and work well, but will be different to the finished driver (software / physical size etc) Edit: Additional information.

ok so there'll be no problems with new chassis fitting into old chassis cutout and bolt holes then.
still going to be nice and shallow 180mm or close like PD1850....?

I’ve changed from 50s to 51s (same amps, preamp, scoops) and ran them last Saturday. http://forum.speakerplans.com/dec-15th-ital-vibes-vs-sounds-pressure-hitchin_topic70772.html Subjectively, there is a world of difference between these drivers. I would describe the 50 as more aggressive than the 51. The 51 has a noticeably warmer tone. You can achieve extreme SPL with a 50 of course (if that’s your thing), but personally I find there comes a point where it’s just plain uncomfortable; you can get to the same subjective SPL with the 51 and it is still nice and bearable. |
