OK guys, hoping you can help me out on this one.
Ive succesfully built some twin 15" reflex subs (based on G SUB design but smaller) using twin FANE 15XB, happy with the sound, now looking to build some mid tops. Im looking at the X15 as my design of choice, as it would allow me to do smaller gigs stand alone, leaving the subs at home. I have no problems getting hold of the P Audio D450, and the PH200 horn, but the specified SN15MB is proving a problem is the P Audio driver SN2-15LF8 a suitable replacement or equivalent? (this is the one on sale from Blue Arran) I plan to run these units active, with a x over around 1.5-2KHz, so need a bass driver that will be happy upto that range, but still give me the F3 values of 48Hz that Rog specifies in the design. Could I use something like a Kappa 15LF, or maybe a 15XB?, but ideally Im looking for a driver sub £100ish if possible Speakers will be mainly for general disco use, and the occasional live rock/pop bands. Not looking to fill a stadium, maybe a pub garden or village hall type deal, currently using some cheap crappy KAM Z15 15" + 1" at the moment so looking for improvments on this Your suggestions/experiences with other drives would be appreciated cheers guys |

1st off, the Kappa 15LF and Fane XB won't work, they're dedicated sub-bass drivers intended purely for low bass, not full-range use.
Most people on here seem to think the Eminence Kappalite 15 is the best replacement for the now defunct P-Audio SN15MB. I'd also suggest the Delta 15a from Eminence, for sheer value. I personally like the sound of them, but I've never pushed their range up too high, crossing them over at 1KHz to an 8" mid driver, but on paper at least they should easily meet your chosen comp. Speaking of which, you should maybe make a post in the Newbie or General section on alternatives to the D450. There are definitely a few others you should consider from the likes of B&C, BMS or Beyma for similar money, that may outperform the original driver. Was the original crossover point, not supposed to be 2.2KHz? |

Just had a look at the 15" from Blue Arran and assuming that they sound OK then at that price I don't see how you could get better.
Comps easy, BMS 4550 on a Faital LTH102 crossed at 1K Tony |

Tony, do you mean the Kappalite or the Delta 15a? And do you think the specs look decent for the X15 design?
